The Aswirl With Activity Edition: Second Serving Sunday

A weekly peek backwards and a look ahead, from my little corner of the blogosphere…

Are you ready for a Second Serving?

Life Stuff:

Last Week’s Edition: Peace Falling Like Leaves

  • This week came with the unexpected –  OnTuesday, the kids received a last-minute invite to a party at an indoor water park a little over an hour from home. Miah declined, but Lise wanted to attend – and none of her swimsuits fit after her recent growth spurt.
  • Wednesday afternoon, she and I visited four stores before finding one in her size that she liked. Sporting goods store FTW!
  • Because her brother didn’t attend, Lise was able to invite her friend Gabrielle, so we picked her up on the way. While the girls attended the party, Miah and I had lunch at Johnny Rockets, and spent some quality one on one time together before we all were reunited for the drive home. Both kids were asleep within an hour or two of getting home, so I also had some private time with my Accomplice.
  • The week also included a fair amount of cleaning and organizing – the continuation of our goal to declutter and prepare to move to Oregon in a year or two.
  • What didn’t happen as much as I’d hoped is writing-related activity. It’s hard for me to be both outwardly focused, and inwardly oriented, at the same time. I did write a few poems, and some blogposts, and did a bit of freewriting for next year’s A-Z. But plans to get caught up went awry in the swirl of activity…
  • Which did include both my weekly Sunday write-in with our local NaNoWriMo group, and a plotting workshop at a local library on Monday. So there was writing-related stuff, just not nearly as much as I’d hoped at the beginning of the week.
  • Sometimes, life takes precedence. And that’s OK.
With my nearly grown boy at The Great Escape Lodge and Waterpark,  yesterday.

Last week’s features:

ROW80:  The Writing Challenge That Knows You Have A Life.

  • Warmth and Gratitude: The first freeze, and my update, from within my cozy, happily active home.

  • Flurries of Gratitude: As the first flakes fall and the leaves swirl in brisk breezes, I find gratitude amidst the chaos of the unexpected.

Eight Sentence Sunday: The Blog Hop For Everyone Who Loves to Write!

  • Something Totally Unrelated”: T’Pol’s questions lead to an inspired volley and a questioning of the evidence…but the certainty that they must follow the Captain’s orders is what’s tripping up Trip.

Mindful Monday:  Because Self-Awareness is Vital to My Joyful Life.

  • I was apparently mindfully elsewhere on Monday, and didn’t post.

WIPpet Wednesday: Date-related WIP Snippets!

  • Being Bamboozled”: In the second snippet from The IDIC Romance‘s “Scavenger Hunt”,  Trip and T’Pol exchange a verbal volley regarding their performance of a days-off assignment that might or might not have been a game,  and Jon knows he’s being bamboozled – but the how is still a mystery.

Coffee and Conversation: Grab a cup of something refreshing, and let’s chat!

  • I had coffee and conversation, just not on my blog…

SoCS (Stream of Consciousness Saturday): A weekly prompt to free the mind, and the words!

  • Where’s the Beef?”: An unexpected party brings an opportunity to spend some time with my fourteen-year-old – and a reflection on growing up.

OctPoWriMo: 31 poems in 31 days!

In the Wilds of Internet-Land: What Piqued My Interest This Week:

  • A Day of Fasting:  A lovely and meaningful poem that inspired my week’s activities.
  • Selfieish:  When women are so insecure about how they look that they leave little photographic record of their existence.

This week, on the blog:

  • #8sunday: More “Mission Accomplished” from that delicious inter-species duo, Trip and T’Pol. Will kissing trump sleuthing?
  • Mindful Monday: How much is enough? Is it time for a November hiatus?
  • ROW80 Updates: On Sunday and Wednesday, for the duration of the round.
  • WIPpet Wednesday: I’m serializing “Scavenger Hunt”, another #StaD story from The IDIC Romance, and the sequel to “Mission”. The nature of Vulcan questions, and the human correlation between movies and popcorn.
  • Coffee and Conversation: A potential schedule change, and a possible partial hiatus. And maybe more about bullying, as well.
  • Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS): A post based on the weekly prompt, TBA Friday. I’ll go wherever my wandering mind takes me.
  • OctPoWriMo: A month long exploration of and celebration of poetry. I intend to finish the month with 31 poems written and posted.
With Annalise and Gabrielle at the Great Escape. Notice the matching sharks they got at the arcade. =)

What’s Next:

  • I’ll keep moving toward my ROW80 and OctPoWriMo goals. This will include a bit of a ROW80 reset, to accommodate the end of the month, and a shift to NaNoWriMo and novel drafting.
  • 2015-16 homeschool paperwork, and a minor fix from last year’s reporting.

  • A few other matters need tending – loose ends from the last weeks. This week, I wrap up some of those projects in progress.

  • Halloween travel, and a doctor’s appointment for Lise.

That’s what I’ve been up to, and will be getting up to.

What about you?

Anything exciting happening in your corner of the world?

Any Second Servings to offer?

(Yes, I’m a little nosy. Writer thing.)

If you want to satisfy my perhaps inappropriate curiosity,

drop a line, a link, or an image into the rectangular receptacle below

or just pass around the serving platter!

Seconds? No! I couldn’t even finish the firsts…

The Peace Falling Like Leaves Edition: Second Serving Sunday

A weekly peek backwards and a look ahead, from my little corner of the blogosphere…

Are you ready for a Second Serving?

Life Stuff:

Last Week’s Edition: What a Difference A Week Makes

  • This week brought some degree of resolution to the family matters that dominated our lives since the beginning of the month. There will still be some follow-up and things left to tend to, but the intensity has shifted to something that feels more settled, and I’m shifting, too, using this difficulty as a catalyst for change in several areas of my life.
  • The weather is growing colder – Saturday night brought the first freeze of the season. I went out ahead of it and cut the rest of my wildflower garden. The freshest blooms were brought inside – we’ve got two pretty vases, brimming with pinks, purples, and whites. The rest were scattered through the area I plan to seed next spring, to help the process along, or loaded into the wheelbarrow to be strategically placed elsewhere.
  • I’m getting back into a more normal writing routine, of sorts. The children’s sleep/wake cycles are out of sync with mine, at the new moon, so I’m playing things more by ear, but still making measurable progress….and the new moon always spurs my creativity.

Last Week’s Features:

ROW80:  The Writing Challenge That Knows You Have A Life.

  • Grateful Clarity: In Week One of Round Four, Life asserts itself and challenges me to take my theme – gratitude – seriously.

  • Peace and Gratitude: In the aftermath of life challenges, peace returns, and I exhale gratefully as I begin to resume my course toward my goals.

Eight Sentence Sunday:  The Blog Hop For Everyone Who Loves to Write!

  • Losing Focus”: If the rest of T’Pol always goes where her fingertips lead her, and those fingers have captured Trip’s, is Vulcan logic going to help either one of them concentrate on the matter at, ummm, hand?

Mindful Monday:  Because Self-Awareness is Vital to My Joyful Life.

WIPpet Wednesday: Date-related WIP Snippets!

Coffee and Conversation: Grab a cup of something refreshing, and let’s chat!

  • This feature isn’t exactly on hiatus – I’m just running a bit later than I anticipated…

SoCS (Stream of Consciousness Saturday):

A weekly prompt to free the mind, and the words!

OctPoWriMo: 31 Days of Poetic Exploration!

What’s Next:

  • I’ll keep moving toward my ROW80 goals.
  • More OctPoWriMo – hopefully, lots more! With the new moon and the full in the offing over the rest of the month, I expect to make significant poetic progress – and to continue actually posting my poems! =)
  • 2015-16 homeschool paperwork, and a minor fix from last year’s reporting.

  • A few other matters need tending – loose ends from the last weeks. This week, I delve into that.

  • Prepping for NaNoWriMo next month – my novel is already plotted and waiting, so I’ll be focusing on pre-emptive home and yardtending, dealing with various administrative responsibilities, and queuing features posts to carry me through November with a minimum of fuss. I’ll also be attending a plotting workshop in addition to our regular write-in.

  • We’ve got plans for a Halloween trip, so I’ll be gearing up for that.

This week, on the blog:

  • #8sunday: More “Mission Accomplished” from that delicious inter-species duo, Trip and T’Pol.
  • Mindful Monday: How much is enough?
  • ROW80 Updates: On Sunday and Wednesday, for the duration of the round.
  • WIPpet Wednesday: I’m serializing “Scavenger Hunt”, another #StaD story from The IDIC Romance, and the sequel to “Mission”.
  • Coffee and Conversation: When we push anti-bullying campaigns on kids, and glorify adults who bully, what message are we really sending? Parts 2 and 3 of 7, this week.
  • Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS): A post based on the weekly prompt, TBA Friday. I’ll go wherever my wandering mind takes me…likely into poetry.
  • OctPoWriMo: A month long exploration of and celebration of poetry. I intend to get caught up with writing, and make inroads into the posting, this week.

The Not Sure What to Say Edition: Second Serving Sunday

A weekly peek backwards and a look ahead, from my little corner of the blogosphere…

Are you ready for a Second Serving?

Life Stuff:

Last Week’s Edition: Fertile Fall

  • This week included the sudden onset of the potentially expected, yet still unexpected. No, I’m not going to say more now – matters are still unfolding, and we’re still processing. I will say that we’re all well, and the unexpected has already proven to be beneficial…so no need to worry. It’s just unexpected, not calamitous!
  • There’s been quite a lot of home and yardtending this week, since the weather’s turned cooler, with the promise of a more indoorsy focus in the offing.
  • ROW80 is  on hiatus until tomorrow. I’ve gotten my end of round and annual goals updates done, but haven’t yet posted my September goals update – hopefully, I’ll get to that later today  – the unexpected led to a bit of a writing and blogging backup. I’ll be polishing up my sponsor post during the day today, and sending it on to Kait for scheduling. Then I can settle on my ROund Four goals, and start tomorrow off right! =)
  • Story a Day is over until next May, and OctPoWriMo is well underway. I’ve enjoyed my first three poems, and today’s is simmering in the back of my mind as I type this.

Last week’s features:

ROW80:  The Writing Challenge That Knows You Have A Life.

Eight Sentence Sunday:  The Blog Hop For Everyone Who Loves to Write!

Mindful Monday:  Because Self-Awareness is Vital to My Joyful Life.

  • Going With My Flow:  When I honor my creative energies, amazing things happen. When I don’t? Not so much.

WIPpet Wednesday: Date-related WIP Snippets!

Coffee and Conversation: Grab a cup of something refreshing, and let’s chat!

  • Oops! Life got a bit sideways, and I didn’t sit down with you to converse over a cuppa this week.

SoCS (Stream of Consciousness Saturday): A weekly prompt to free the mind, and the words!

Story A Day September: Because once a year isn’t enough, and Trip and T’Pol won’t wait!

  • All These Thorns: Trip has armloads of thorny treasures, a waiting and grieving Vulcan – and too many questions from the Cap’n.
  • I’m not going to be posting more, now – but I have plans for later in the year, so stay tuned!

5195a-img_20150928_151453

OctPoWriMo: Poetry Among the Falling Leaves

  • Full Moon Clouds: Nighttime walks with my daughter beneath a full moon and a skyful of clouds bring present connection and weave the future.

What’s Next:

  • Round Four of ROW80 is nearly upon us. I’ll be sharing my September progress, my Round Four goals, and my first update, which will include my October goals.
  • OctPoWriMo brings a month of poetic exploration.
  • 2015-16 homeschool paperwork, and a minor fix from last year’s reporting.

  • A few other matters need tending. More on that when they’ve been accomplished.

This week, on the blog:

  • #8sunday: More “Mission Accomplished” from that delicious inter-species duo, Trip and T’Pol.
  • Mindful Monday: Embracing my inner poet in a time of some strife, and finding solace there.
  • ROW80 Updates: On Sunday and Wednesday, for the duration of the round.
  • WIPpet Wednesday: From The IDIC Romance; something different, and yet, kind of the same.
  • Coffee and Conversation: When we push anti-bullying campaigns on kids, and glorify adults who bully, what message are we really sending?
  • Stream of Consciousness Saturday (SoCS): A post based on the weekly prompt, TBA Friday. I’ll go wherever my wandering mind takes me…likely into poetry.
  • OctPoWriMo: A month long exploration of and celebration of poetry. I’ll be writing (and roughly revising) a poem each day, all month long.

The Fertile Fall Edition: Second Serving Sunday

A weekly peek backwards and a look ahead, from my little corner of the blogosphere…

Are you ready for a Second Serving?

Life Stuff:

Last Week’s Edition: Creative Pause

  • Another quietish week here. Sleep/wake cycles are more coordinated, but with a sleepover followed by the sniffles, both kids were inclined to stay closer to home, and our planned fall outings are still awaiting us. There was lunch with the boy, who went with me to the Y, and walks with my girl.
  • Saturday, they spent the evening visiting their grandparents, and having a great time with their cousins. They had what’s  likely their last outside swim of the season, and both were asleep soon after getting home.
  • My Accomplice and I are rearranging the living room, and we’re all spending more time there these days.
  • I’m having a surge in creativity as the moon approaches full. I’ve been up all night, writing and having lots of  little epiphanies.
  • Round Three of ROW80 is complete, and we’re on hiatus until October 5.

Last week’s features:

ROW80:  The Writing Challenge That Knows You Have A Life.

  • Final Reflections: Is it the end, or is there ever really an end? Final Round Three 2015 update.

Eight Sentence Sunday:  The Blog Hop For Everyone Who Loves to Write!

  • “Wasting Time”: Trip and T’Pol have a job to do, and desires to share – so why are they arguing, when that’s just wasting time?

Mindful Monday:  Because Self-Awareness is Vital to My Joyful Life.

WIPpet Wednesday: Date-related WIP Snippets!

Coffee and Conversation: Grab a cup of something refreshing, and let’s chat!

  • The Miracle of Making Do:  When resources and needs don’t sync up, there is the potential for wonderful things to happen!

SoCS (Stream of Consciousness Saturday): A weekly prompt to free the mind, and the words!

Story A Day September: Because once a year isn’t enough, and Trip and T’Pol won’t wait!

  • Tunnel of Love”: Prompt: Character in a tunnel.T’Pol’s queries regarding a song title lead to a rather unexpected Vulcan/human standoff…complete with egg salad, tea, fascination and possibly some heavy blushing.
  • The Monstrous More:  Prompt: Fatal flaw brings disaster. T’Pol has a monster inside, and Trip’s afraid of being devoured by its need for moremoremore.

What’s Next:

  • Round Three of ROW80 is complete, but I don’t like to lose my Sunday/Wednesday rhythm, so I will be posting my Round Three Goals update later today or early tomorrow, and my September goals final update early Thursday morning, once the entire month is past.
  • The end of September will mean the end of Story a Day until next May, and the beginning of OctPoWriMo. I’ll shift from flash fiction to poetry in this tansitional season, and then to NaNoWriMo in November.
  • I’ll get started on our 2015-16 homeschool paperwork, and deal with a minor issue from last year’s reporting.

  • And, with circadian rhythms moving into better harmony, and health returned, there may be a trip to the New York State Museum, and possibly apple-picking, in our not too distant future.

This week, on the blog:

  • #8sunday: More “Mission Accomplished” from that delicious inter-species duo, Trip and T’Pol.
  • Mindful Monday: Going With Our Personal Flow.
  • ROW80 Updates: On Sunday and Wednesday, for the duration of the round.
  • WIPpet Wednesday: From The IDIC Romance; something different to sample.
  • Story a Day September: More new stories for The IDIC Romance.. A tough, smart Vulcan lady, and the tough, smart (and really brave!) human who loves her…Hopefully, I will get most or all published before the end of the month…if not, I’ll keep including them till they’re all accounted for!
  • OctPoWriMo: A month long exploration of and celebration of poetry. I’ll be writing (and roughly revising, I hope); a poem each day, all month long.

  • Questions and Answers:  Prompt: Someone or something has disappeared. In this sequel to Not Jealousy, Captain Archer tries to discover the circcumstances surrounding T’Pol’s disappearance; but Trip’s not exactly making sense – and then Phlox says what Jonathan Archer doesn’t want to hear….

What’s Next:

  • September is edging out of its first week, and into its second. Around here, schools will mostly begin on Wednesday, so we’re planning a trip to our state museum on Thursday, when it’ll be less crowded. Homeschool paperwork will take precedence, this week, as will blogging and Story A Day. And my Accomplice has the next few days off, so there will be lots of time for family and spousal connection, too. ❤

This week, on the blog:

  • ROW80 Updates: On Sunday and Wednesday, for the duration of the round.

The Adversity’s Gift Edition: Second Serving Sunday

A weekly peek backwards and a look ahead, from my little corner of the blogosphere…

Are you ready for a Second Serving?

Life Stuff:

Last Week’s Edition: Eighteen Years

  • It’s been an interesting week. My laptop is down for the count, there was a surprise sleepover for my daughter, and a susequent visit with a friend I hadn’t seen in too long for me.The computer issues, though potentially frustrating, have shifted my routine, putting my focus on other things in ways I’ve often found restful and delightful. So, while I’ll be thrilled when the issues are resolved and I can go back to using a modern machine, there is definitely value and joy to be had in this time of unintended change…

So, here’s what happened in this atypical week in my life….

Variety’s Spice: Those little extras in life!

What’s Next:

  • August is nearly done, and is ending in ways I didn’t anticipate. September brings my boy’s fourteenth birthday, due dates for homeschool paperwork, and the first hints of fall. It also brings a continuation of these goals, some homeschooling adventures once most kids are back in class, and the end of ROW80 Round Three.

The Eighteen Years Edition: Second Serving Sunday

A weekly peek backwards and a look ahead,

from my little corner of the blogosphere…

Are you ready for a Second Serving?

Life Stuff:

  • Yesterday, my daughter, age 11, and I had a Girls’ Afternoon. She saw an ad for the Saratoga Arts Celebration, held on the grounds of the National Museum of Dance, and thought it looked interesting. Our calendar was clear, and her nearly 14 year old brother wanted some time home alone, so we went to the show, and then to Yaddo, where she’d never been, and where we saw koi as long as my forearm! We followed that up with some ice cream at Stewart’s – a Make Your Own Sundae for her, and a pistachio waffle cone with extra nuts for me, because I wasn’t quite nutty enough!

Somewhere in the midst of all that, some writing and blogging type things got done, and some other things, too….
