Final December 2015 Goals Update: #ROW80

OK, I know…I’m a bit late with this update. Other Things took me in other directions, and, though I’ve been working on it…well, it wasn’t quite finished.

Today, that changes.

Scrolling down the list shows me that I’ve got a good deal of green there, some nice blue, and a bit of red. For me, that’s a very productive month, with lots of projects ongoing, some wrapping up, and some either waiting their turn or an evaluation to see whether they really suit my life and goals as they currently exist.

I’m calling that a success, and something of a head start for my 2016, ROW80 Round One, and January goals.

Do you set goals for yourself? What’s your approach? Do you keep them in your head? Write or record them? Keep them as private motivators? Share them with others? Do you assess your progress? On a schedule, or as the mood strikes? How do you evaluate your progress, if you do? Do you consider your goals, once committed to, set in stone, or more changeable?

Something I’ve learned in four years of participating in ROW80 is that there are as many approaches to the process of attaining goals as there are people setting them – actually, it’s likely more, since many of us change over time, as we learn and grow.

I love getting insight into how others interact with their goals, so it would tickle me no end to read a bit about your process – and I’ll learn something from what you share – not that I’m trying to pressure you to share, because, well, that’s icky. =)

And now, the update!

Color-coding key:

  • Goal attained = blue with overstrike.

  • Goal in progress = green.

A Season of Gratitude: ROW80 Round Four Goals

What are you grateful for?

Round Four is a perfect time for me to stop and consider this question. With the shifting of the seasons, and the holidays nearly upon us, with all the associated hype and expectations, I want to connect with my deeper emotions, and those things I’m grateful for that can’t be added to a shopping list:

  • People who are beloved to me, and hold me as beloved to them.
  • Health.
  • Happiness.
  • Contentment.
  • The ability to experience the simple pleasures of a life lived simply.
  • Friends who get me, expand me, challenge me.
  • Taking another breath, and another, and another, while my heart beats.
  • Going to sleep, and waking up again.
  • Activity and dreams
  • And so very much more!

My goals this round are designed with gratitude in mind. I intend to take these challenges – both the ones I’ve set for myself and those life offers up as unexpected gifts – as opportunities for growth and gratefulness…

So, once more, with feeling, I ask:

What are you grateful for, today?

Keeping Tabs:

Color-coding key:

  • Goal attained = blue with overstrike.

  • Goal in progress = green.

  • Goal-in-waiting = red.

Writing:

  • OctPoWriMo: Complete one poem each day; revise as possible; post. So far, keeping up. 4/31 days complete.

Plotting:

  • The IDIC Romance: Complete 11:11 freewritings. Select and rough draft all 2016 A-Z posts. Order #StaD September stories in main Scrivener file. Freewritings for letter Q in progress. 16/26 letters complete. One story selected and drafted (letter M; “Male of the Species”).

Revision:

  • The IDIC Romance:Slow Jazz Awakening”: Complete revision plan for 16 scenes; offer to betas; polish; and submit to a fan fiction site. Revision plan: scene 3/16 in progress.

Blogging/Social Media:

  • Publish all regular features posts; scheduling ahead as possible. Queue C and C, Mindful Monday, WIPpet, and #8sunday posts; pars of 3 for each. Post authorized reblogs at least twice monthly. One #8sunday scheduled; 3 in progress; snippets selected through early November. One WIPpet in progress; snippets selected through mid-November.

  • Catch up on all blog comments and visits. It’s been catch as catch can, between rounds.

  • ROW80: Keep visits and updates current. Submit Round 4 Sponsor Post. Sponsor post needs polishing and finishing, but will be submitted before end of day Monday.

  • Empty email inbox and tend to actionable materials. Email in progress.

Hometending:

  • Homeschool Administration: Complete all pending paperwork. Draft IHIPs; deal with Peer Review issue from 2014-15.
  • Continue decluttering/beautification projects; in home and/or yard, five days weekly. Continue making improvements to our home and our quality of life; choose two focal areas for each working day. It’s been a time of more intense focus on this, during the break, and for various reasons. Weeding, living room, Lise’s room, kitchen. Things are really looking up. Keep up this trend!

Lifetending:

  • Continue planning/ attending outings and events while taking budget and each child’s need for social time and hibernation into account. Make doctor appointments for both.

  • NNWM local group: Attend write-ins regularly, and check in on the Facebook and Twitter groups as inspired. Read and critique both projects I’ve been hanging onto. Checked in on Facebook and went to write- in.
  • Complete the two beta reads I’ve had waaay too long.

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, several times each week.
  • Read 3 fellow author books; complete 7 reviews.

Selftending

  • Write in Intentions journal/ #onegoodcup journal six times each week. Write in Gratitude journal and meditate seven times weekly, including one eating meditation. Explore three new meditative practices. I‘ve done my journals and meditation every day but Thursday (and that’s a long story for another day).

  • T’ai chi practice: at home five times; class twice. Continue reading The Tai Chi Directory, and adding movements to my at-home practice.

  • Make time for physical activity six days a week; use phone app to track three time a week. Lots of activity; less tracking.

Leaps of Faith:

  • This is a brand new category for me. There seem always to be things on my horizon I’m wanting to explore, but know very little about. This round, I will do something toward one of these ‘Leap of Faith’ goals each week. I don’t know exactly what, yet, because I really don’t know enough to set more concrete goals. By the end of the round, I intend to know much more! =)

  • Poetry Chapbooks

  • Website/Business blog

  • Fantasy convention

  • Fan fiction stuff

  • Self-publishing

Moving Reflections: August 16, 2015

ROWing reflectively….

Round Three is all about reflection, for me:

where I am, who I am, where I’d like to be,

and who I’d like to be when I get there.

After the in-tent-sity of Unschoolers Rock the Campground (I’ve finally gotten all the camping gear stowed -OK, somewhat haphazardly piled in the Chaos Porch until I’m up to making another surge of order happen there…), followed by exhaustion, then the scattered return to a more typical rhythm, comes….

  • Progress

  • Growth

  • Epiphanies

  • Creativity

  • And lots of words!

The forward progress, as predicted, is piling up, like the storm clouds on these dog day afternoons, or the snowflakes last winter – do you remember last winter? The one that went from December into May, and which we were incredibly lucky enough to get a ten-day Oregon intermission from, because yours truly was smart enough to have a Left Coast guy want to be her Accomplice in Mischief?

If you don’t, don’t worry – I have pictures…pictures guaranteed to cool you down a bit on even the hottest August afternoon!

Subarus in the Snow!

Funhouse Mirror Reflections…: July 20, 2015

ROWing through the impromptu….

Round Three is all about reflection, for me: where I am, who I am, where I’d like to be, and who I’d like to be when I get there…

Ever have a stretch where it seemed that everything that could possibly be an obstacle, and a few things you never suspected might be, got in the way of the things you planned to do, cleared time to do, announced to all your beloveds that you intended to do?

That’s the last two days, for me. I had no other plans, and my kids’ sleep/wake schedules were conducive, and so I let the family know that I planned to spend the bulk of my weekend writing.

Which was a lovely idea that did not pan out, because I am Mommy, and Wife, as well as Writer.

Cousins on a sleepover!
Carlee and Annalise – Cousins on a sleepover!

An impromptu sleepover, an impromptu walk, two impromptu trips to McDonald’s. An impromptu clearing of the writing decks to be with my Accomplice. An impromptu two hour text chat with a homesick girl awake after everyone else was asleep. Arriving for my weekly write-in to find no one else from my group there, because the power had gone out, and I didn’t check the Facebook group before I headed out…

So, I didn’t get that two days I was looking forward to – but I did a lot of writing, in the cracks and crevices left to me, in the midst of living…

And that’s enough…although I’m holding out high hopes, still, that I can make up a bit for some of the lost time, today and tomorrow…because hope, after all, springs eternal!

A moment....
A moment….

Color-coding key:

  • Goal attained = blue with overstrike.

  • Goal in progress = green.

  • Goal-in-waiting = red.

  • The IDIC Romance: Fit 2015 Story A Day May stories into existing, chronological Scrivener binder; fix continuity errors. Existing stories ordered through #14 (“Hey, Cinderella”); slots created for S1: “Get Out Your White Hat”, and pre – S1: “Slow Jazz Awakening”, which is a compilation of stories #1-3 of the 2014 series. Nothing new.
Silliness run in the family! =D

  • Share posts – mine, and others’: Share generously and variously as inspired! Get out of my comfort zone a bit with this one, and explore some new ideas… Yup! I shared several things!
  • Go on at least one social media adventure each week. I’ve been treating this like a chore – time to have fun with it! Nothing this week.

Hometending:

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, several times each week. Walks, McD’s, and many chats with both kids; couples’ time; conversation; and bleeding brakes with my Accomplice. We all went to the drive-in.

  • Make time for physical activity every day; use phone app to track three time a week. 7/7 days, 3/3 with phone; Walking, weeding, and hometending.

Movable and Inspiring Nest: December 14, 2014

Wanna ROW with us?

Hey there! How are ya?

The kids and I have been visiting our dear friends, the Woodman family, since late Thursday. We live in upstate New York, and they live in central New Jersey…but Skype and text chats can only go so far, so, a few times a year, we load up the Outback and make the five-hour drive to our “second home”.

No one gets much sleep, but a tremendous amount of fun is had…the pictures will say it better than I can!

Writing is not as prolific for me, here – too many wonderful other things to do, and, after all, it’s not why we came, even if Sylvia is my personal patron of the arts and loves to have my typing away at her kitchen table, on the guest bed, or in her living room…so, while there is writing, the focus narrowed to blogging, the kids’ reports (nearly done, and due tomorrow), and my NaNo WIP, which is getting close to the resolution scenes, and still surprising me…

But the inspiration? That will ride home in the car with us, later today, and be with me for some time to come…be on the lookout for many, many words in the next week or two!

Here’s looking at you and yours, Sylvia Woodman! You guys make me a better me! =D

Do you have personal friends who inspire you to go more deeply into your passions? Have you let them know what that means to you?

Sprucing and Pruning My Nest: December 10, 2014

Wanna ROW with us?

So, how are you doing, this late winter? Here in the frozen north, we’re wrapping up a two-day storm. I’ve taken advantage of a disparity in mine and the kids’ sleep/wake cycles to get in some words, move the reports forward, and evaluate my goals buffet, pruning some branches I’m not going to get to this round.

The next few days, the kids and I will be away, so I’ll be writing more hit-or-miss until at least Monday.

A December Nest: December 4, 2014

Come ROW with us!

So, what happens, after the NaNoThon?

Well, in my case, I keep writing. I’ve got a little more than a quarter of the story left to write, and a sixth of another, and I want to finish them both (and well) this month.

But I’m doing it at a more leisurely pace. And I’ll be doing other things, things I put aside for the NaNoThon – writing things, reconnecting things, traveling things, preparing things, reviewing things, joyful things, learning things…

You know. Life.

What about you? Is December a continuation of your November plans? A law unto itself? Just another month? Something completely different? I’d love to know!
