Foundations That Accommodate:  ROW80/12 Week Year Week 9 Final

As I write this in the wee hours of Sunday morning, we’re a little over a day away from Jim’s first five-hour chemotherapy treatment, which will be followed with another 46 hours of at-home infusion via a pump, which will be attached and detached by a visiting nurse…

And our house is more of a mess than I’d like. In part, it’s the result of a busy week of appointments, car repairs, errands, and little sleep for me. In part, it’s that my efforts to prepare for the journey to come have included purchasing much needed dishes and flatware, as well as an Instant Pot that may alleviate the issue of food…Jim, as a chef, is far better than I am at that kind of thing; but I want to be better, so he can enjoy eating without needing to prepare, but also so I don’t have to add another huge, repetitive task to my already formidable list…

And so there are wrappings, and things I’ve been organizing, and…life.

I probably worry about that kind of thing more than I need to…and, really, life is an amazing thing for any home to be full of…

Still, the next hours will see me trying to get the place tidied…not so much for the nurse, but for those of us living here – all four of us.

Sunday Evening Update: Things look a lot better than they did when I wrote the above. I’m now taking the rest of the night off, for my region’s NaNoWriMo2017 TGIO* Party.

Are you a fan of a tidy house, or not really concerned if things get cluttered?

Seek and accept help as needed/offered.  Also seek out those willing to help organize, because it’s hard for me to think about that while focusing on Jim, the children, and myself: Weeks 9-12.

  • When a good local friend messaged to ask how we were, and offered help, I made two small suggestions; things that would be of great value to me.
  • Reached out to a Facebook group for ideas/tips for our new Instant Pot.
  • Asking for help is still uncomfortable; neither of us was raised to do it. I’m adapting by remembering that, when folks feel powerless, being able to offer even small bits of assistance makes them feel better while it helps us. That’s a worthy trade.
