Creating New Foundations: 12 Week Year/ ROW80 Week 7 Final

As the seventh week of my first 12 Week Year passed, and ROW80 Round 4 moved into its second half, I struggled with blending my goals with our new reality as a family dealing with a terminal medical diagnosis.

There are many things to be tended to – from tiny details to broad strokes. We’ve started thinking and talking through some of these things. Whether I like it or not, and whatever time frame it follows, it seems I will end this particular journey as a widow with two teenaged children to finish raising.

Next to that, these goals seem – inconsequential? No, that’s not quite it. But certainly, less weighty, when compared to the magnitude of what lies ahead.

And yet…

Right now, we’re still a family of four. Jim doesn’t feel great, but he is able to drive, to cook, to be here and laugh and cry and hug and love – and to tell me that it’s all right for me to live a normal life. To do the things I was doing, back when life was “normal.” To have my own goals and dreams.

So, even though it was a struggle that took all week (hence my missed Wednesday update), I’ve gone through each goal. I’ll be posting the adapted list later in the day, but here’s my slightly belated Week 7 progress.

Relationships, Family, and Home:

Beta Reading:

One chapter of either Spellfire’s Kiss or Stained Blood each week, as possible: Weeks 7-12.

  • In troubled times, it helps to give something back to the community – and both are great stories!
  • Week 7 Progress: 0%

Hometending:

Complete five hometending rounds in bedroom; three on porch; and one in study: Weeks 79.

  • Hometending helps me find order in times of chaos, and show my love in a practical, comfortable way.
  • Week 7 goal: COMPLETED!

Complete one hometending round bathroom; family room; kitchen; and living room each week. Week 79.

  • Accomplished all these, and more.
  • Week 7 goal: COMPLETED!

Homeschool Administration:

Facilitate Jeremiah’s driving practice thrice weekly, weather dependent: Weeks 79.

  • We drove twice this week, including a good stretch on the local interstate highway. He’s becoming quite proficient.
  • Week 7 progress: 66%

Draft Miah’s homeschool report: Weeks 7-8.

  • Sciences (Section 3/16) in progress.
  • Week 7 progress: about 15%

Professional/Financial:

New Learning:

DIY-MFA Pixels to Platform:

Give 15 minutes/week to Modules One/Two:  Weeks 7-12.

  • Week 7 progress: 0%

 Slaying SEO:

Get all revelant materials from the Page/blog links, so I can work on this when life permits: Weeks 7-8.

  • Week 7 progress: 0%

How To Revise Your Novel:

Complete 15 minutes of current lessons, using “On Any Tuesday Night”: Weeks 7-12.

  • Week 7 progress: 0%

New Writing:

Among the Firestars:

Complete Plotting elements: Weeks 7- 9.

  • A little,  early in the week.
  • Working through Subplot 2/3.
  • Week 7 progress: 20%

Complete 50,000 words of rough draft: Weeks 7- 9.

  • I started writing to deal with trauma and the inexplicable. It’s the way I most easily process these things. While I’m making no claims on the overall quality of this draft, I’m making progress, and learning about my characters and their stories. Roughly at the midpoint now.
  • 36,686/50,000 words completed. I wrote more some days, and nothing on Saturday, since I spent the day in company with Jim, watching Alaska documentaries and puttering at cleaning.
  • Week 7 progress: I didn’t set a quantity goal, but overall I’m about 75% to goal.

Chef Bluebeard:

Research changing thrust/ownership of website: Weeks 7-12

  • Discussion; Jim’s ready to give up the website, which is paid for 3 years.
  • Week 7 progress: 20%

Contact 10 business establishments regarding wholesale opportunities: Weeks 7-12.

  • Some discussion about what direction to take– we’ve decided on an asking and minimum price, as well as a barter option to liquidate stock.
  • Week 7 progress: about 5%

Body, Mind, and Soul:

The Big Scary Thing:

Learn about and adjust to the reality of Jim’s condition, in order to deal with circumstances as they evolve: Weeks 7-12.

  • There’s been less formal learning thus far, and more adjusting and learning to cope as an individual, couple, and family.
  • We had an oncology consult, and met with social worker.
  • Week 7 progress: Hard to assess, but I think about 40%

Seek and accept help as needed/offered.  Also seek out those willing to help organize, because it’s hard for me to think about that while focusing on Jim, the children, and myself: Weeks 7-12.

  • We’re still adjusting and coming to a place of stability with what’s happening. We don’t really know what we’ll need yet (other than to replace a leaky roof we haven’t been able to afford to do more than patch).
  • We have accepted a financial gift intended to fund some dreamed-of family travel while Jim is feeling well enough to enjoy it, carpooling, a friend paying for my write-in dinner, many well-wishes, and an unexpected but delicious apple tart.
  • Week 7 progress: about 40%

Fitness and Health:

Listen to my body, mind, and soul, and give them the types of exercise, stretching, and nurturance they need in trying times:  Weeks 7-12.

  • This week’s exercise consisted mostly of yard and hometending – with lots of rest. I needed just that.
  • Week 7 goal: COMPLETED!

Mindful Eating:

Eat three vegetable based meals/snacks; aim for Monday/Wednesday/Friday: Week 712.

  • I think I got 2/3.
  • Week 7 progress: about 66%

Personal Expression:

Purchase ear muffs: Weeks 7-12.

  • Week 7 progress: 0%
