Foundations Building Slowly: #ROW80 and #12WeekYear Week 4 Final Update

Hey there!

On Wednesday, I asked this question:

What is your favorite book, and why do you love it?

Today, I’m going to give you my answer. I have many favorites, but two I come back to again and again. One is fiction, the other a memoir of sorts:

Stranger in a Strange Land, by Robert Heinlein. This is the book that gave us the word “grok” – and opened my eyes to new philosophies and perspectives. It was recommended to me by a sometimes lover in my early twenties, and it was the best thing by far to come from that connection.

Gift From the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. While her husband and her firstborn child are more famous, Anne Morrow Lindbergh was a gifted writer and poet in her own right. This book was written during a mostly solitary island retreat, and the stages of a woman’s life are symbolized by different varieties of seashells. Each time I read it, I’m in a slightly different phase of my own life, and understand on a different level.

Now, on to the main event. This wasn’t my best week ever; I think being in a low point in my biorhythm had an effect, as well as the inclusion of the homeschool reports. Still, I did get some things finished, and most things moved forward, so there’s that. =D

  1. I had some frustration this week too. But, like you, other things moved forward. Having some success definitely eases the pain of the frustrating stuff. Congrats on your progress!

It’s hard to pick just one, or even two, favorite book(s). One of my favorites is Dune by Frank Herbert. It might even be my all-time favorite.

  2. Wow. As usual, your quiet week exceeds my busiest I think. Driving lessons sound quite thorough.Once you get snow, that will be the big test.
Glad to see your writings are going well too. I’m rushing toward NaNoWriMo.

  3. I never answered your question about my favorite book, because I too have too many favorites to narrow it down. If I look back over my life, however, I think that the book which sticks most in my head is “Johnny Tremain” by Esther Forbes. I first read it in 6th grade (as it is considered a children’s book), and have read it many times over the years. The characters are so ingrained in my head, as real as any of my friends.

  4. It might not have been one of your best weeks, but it looks like you completed a lot of your goals for the week. So, that’s great!

As for a favorite book? Do I really have to choose? I don’t think I can. I don’t think I’d call it my favorite, but I did get the idea for Slow Revenge(which became Duty to Protect) while reading “Night Shift” by Nora Roberts. So, I guess we could at least call it influential.

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
