12 Week Year Week One Final; #ROW80 October 8, 2017

I’m sitting at our booth at the Schuylerville Fall Festival, listening to the drum riffs provided by Rural Soul. It’s a lovely day, cooler when the breeze blows, which is a relief, since the forecast was for record-breaking heat.

We’ve had a good day here – 10 bottles so far, which ties us for the best weekend sales we’ve had. Things have slowed down a bit, but there are still people around, so we might even break the record in the last half hour.

Once we’re done, we’re going out to dinner at Amigo’s Cantina. That will be a bit of a full-circle; Jim was the exectutive chef there when they opened 10 years ago, and he created all the recipes they used until he was released a year ago in July, launching us on this current adventure into entrepreneurship.

I have a confession to make. I finished the paragraph above on Friday afternoon, five days after I began it. I didn’t want to mention it until it was all said and done, but Jim and I had our first romantic getaway without the children Monday- Thursday. I’d planned to take my laptop and have time to work along the way, but I left it sitting on the family room table instead, so now I’m scrambling to catch up…

Thankfully, ROW80 is the writing challenge that knows I have a life, so…

Are we ready for a final end of Week One/ 12 Week Year/ROW80 Update?

Week 1 Action Plan Progress:

  • Blue: Completed.

Relationships, Family, and Home:

Complete two chapters Spellfire; one Stained. Weeks: 1-5

  • Spellfire: Chapters Four /Five: 2 /2 complete and returned to author.

  • Stained: Chapter Three: 1/1 complete and returned to author; Chapter Four highlighted for next week’s comments.

  • Goal COMPLETE for Week 1.

Complete five hometending rounds on porch; three in study; and one in bedroom. Weeks 1-3.

  • Study main work surface mostly cleared/organized; 3/3 rounds. Clutter policing; organizing on porch; 5/5.

  • Goal COMPLETED for Week 1.

Facilitate Jeremiah’s driving practice twice weekly. Weeks 1-3.

  • Started night driving practice, at his suggestion. Second time in small town traffic. He did very well. 2 /2 .

  • Goal COMPLETED for Week 1.

Complete Modules One/Two. Week 1.

  • I completed Module One/Video One worksheets, watched Video Two, and downloaded worksheets and related materials.

  • Progress to goal: About 30%. I clearly could use a better plan/schedule here.

Complete three hours of How to Revise Your Novel lessons, using “On Any Tuesday Night.” Weeks 1-12.

  • Worked out a discount program on Thursday; signage late Friday; discount used twice on Saturday.


Respond to L.S. and order more books. Week 1.

  • Contacted editor; placed order; paid.


Create event calendar to avoid overbooking. Week 1.

  • Worked Saturday swap meet/bike show.

  • Goal COMPLETED for Week 1!

Contact three venues and three stores for sales. Weeks 1-3.

  • Contacted 6/3 venues; one checkback (we’re scheduled; check has cleared) an email to a new market that runs Wednesday afternoons until Dec. 20, and 3 feelers for events in November/December.

  • Made list of some likely stores; chose 2, and did initial research.

  • About 75% to goal; more focus on stores needed.

Health, Fitness, and Spirituality:

Samsung Health:

Catch up 5K Week 3/Complete Week 4: Week 1

  • 2/3 workouts completed (Monday’s, on Wednesday;Wednesday’s, on Thursday). Too tired for Friday’s, though, so still one workout behind.

  • About 80% to goal; not bad!

Tai chi, yoga, reiki:

Tai chi: Attend class twice weekly; either Monday evening, or Tuesday and/or Thursday afternoons: Weeks 1-12 (skipping week 2).

  • Tai chi 2 /2 completed Thursday.


Cook a vegetable based meal/snack. Weeks 1-2.

  • Baked a sweet potato on Wednesday, had with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.

  • Goal COMPLETED for Week 1.

Personal Expression:

Purchase three new bras.

Buy bra at Lane Bryant/order 1 at ThirdLove (Torrid). Week 1.

  • 2/3: T-Shirt bra ordered from Torrid; ThirdLove doesn’t yet carry my rather generous size (seriously, there’s a huge blank spot in market for large sizes; Torrid seems to understand that where several other companies don’t).

  • Received bra; will have to send back. It didn’t specify it was an underwire, and they dig.

  • Goal COMPLETED for Week 1.

Assess jewelry; purchase new pieces as they speak to me.

  • Go through the jewelry I already have; save and/or discard as I choose. Week 1- 3.

Evaluate wardrobe as the season changes.

Purchase jeans at Lane Bryant, and running socks. Week 1.

  1. I’m not quite sure what update this is, but it certainly is a full one. Including bra buying.
    The romantic get away sounds great. My girlfriend and I recently spent a week together at a small place in the country – our first vacation together – and it was delightful.
    I am impressed at how well you use detailed objectives to manage a wide range of interests. And continue to bring yourself joy.

      i got a little carried away in my quest to catch up, and posted both my belated Sunday and Wednesday posts to the same link. Whoops!

      Buying bras is a real project. I’m difficult to fit; most brands don’t carry my size, and I’ve never bought online. I’m armed with new info, though, so soon diving back into the fray!

      Our getaway was short, but definitely an appetizer for things to come. It bodes well that the kids could handle a minor emergency, and be both happy to see us, and all right with the idea of us doing this again. It’s a big shift in our family dynamic, and an exciting one for all of us.

      I’m learning a lot about goal-setting from The 12 Week Year, which was recommended to me by a friend I really admire for her drive and determination despite chronic illness. She balances moving toward her goals with taking care of herself and mindfulness of her current limitations.

      Hoping to get even better at this as time goes on – I think I still have a few too many steps in my dance. =)

    1. Well – I have a wide-angle kind of brain. It likes lots to do…but I’m still learning the right amount for me. Of course, it changes as the kids grow, and with other aspects of life.

      The 12 Week Year is something I think is going to help me to find out just how much I can do, without becoming some gibbering version of myself no one wants to live with. =)

      Headaches are no fun. Avoiding them if you can seems wise.

      In the end, we’re all different, and each of us has our own best way of getting to our goals.

      Here’s hoping we both find our way closer to what’s best for us! =D
