No Perceptible Pattern for WIPpet Wednesday

Welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a weekly blog hop which encourages writers to move WIPs (works-in-progress) to publication by posting excerpts related to the date. We’re led by the capable fingers and nimble mind of Emily Wrayburn.

Hello there, fellow WIPpeteers – and, to those just along for the ride – welcome! Hop in, get comfy…but don’t leave popcorn in the center seat!

It’s been another busy week. In addition to ordering some things for Chef Bluebeard’s Flavor Enhancement Sauces – director’s chairs that are easier to get in and out of than our slingback camp chairs; a new tote that will organize smaller supplies in a more compact form; a waterproof canopy tent; and sign holders – we’ve also bought two reliable used Subarus, which will make it far easier to load and unload for markets, and allow us to expand to more markets and events, and eventually, move to stores.

That’s what took up a lot of my week thus far….but not why I’m so late getting this posted that it might actually be Thursday before you read this.

Today happens to be our 20th anniversary. So please forgive the lateness; I was celebrating with oysters, asparagus, and yummy desserts!

But now…

It’s time for another installment of my finally-getting–sassy-TnT fan fiction story, adapted from Humanity’s Enterprise . It’s a patchwork of stories, written in different styles, at different times, and for different projects. I’m slowly figuring out how to pull them all together into a coherent whole that explores just how and why T’Pol was the one Vulcan chosen to accompany Enterprise NX-01 on her maiden voyage.

I’ve decided to use this story, once revision gets to a point I’m comfortable with, as my intiation into Wattpad. So please don’t hesitate to let me know if something’s not working for you – it will make a better story in the long run!

Recap:

T’Pol is emotionally agitated after reporting for duty on Enterprise.

Here’s the standard disclaimer. I don’t own them; I don’t make money from them; I just love them, and I tell the stories they give me as well as I can.

WIPpet Math:

  • Today is August 23, 2017.
  • I have 20 sentences for you today – for the 20 years Chef Bluebeard and I have been married, as of today!

No Perceptible Pattern

Meditation would perhaps assist her in recovering herself. However, she had reported for duty, and therefore must take her station. Perhaps it would be logical to request permission from Captain Archer, due to the likelihood that the exercise would improve her efficiency.

But T’Pol didn’t turn back to do so. Her reticence to face either of the two human men again was certainly illogical, and evidenced her agitation. She would meditate on that at the earliest opportunity, but she wouldn’t risk further impediments to her ability to function now.

She was expected to be at her station, although she had received nothing from Jonathan Archer that could be logically construed as a duty assignment. She would therefore spend the interim learning the station and the others, so that she could attend to her duties immediately once she had specific tasks upon which to focus.

Her course decided, T’Pol moved to the entrance of the short corridor that led from the Bridge to the Captain’s Ready Room. The area beyond seemed to have changed little since she passed through it on her way to report to Captain Archer, if the shouting, clanging, and irrelevant conversational fragments were any indication. Perhaps that was the manner of starship functioning on human vessels. If so, she was going to be satisfied with Soval’s directive that she remain in her assigned quarters when not required on the Bridge. She would have need of quiet and order.

She had hesitated already far longer than was logical, or would be acceptable for an officer on a Vulcan crew. T’Pol took a deep breath, and passed through the doorway.

Humans moved frenetically about the Bridge, moving with no perceptible pattern from one position to another. Much of the activity seemed to be centered around a large diagnostic display table in an alcove to her left. Three crewman were adjusting the device, while four more watched from the perimeter of the space, and three more lingered in the entrance to the space, exchanging greetings and accounts of what they’d been doing when prematurely called to duty.

Perhaps she should expect nothing else, on a ship commanded by a Terran who had openly professed a desire to “knock her on her ass”. She was still uncertain of the precise meaning of the colloquialism, but there was no doubt that it had been hostile.

Will T’Pol find emotional stability?

Will she get the chance to meditate?

Can she adjust to working on a human ship?

Any guesses?

  1. It’s great to read T’Pol’s internal monologue. She has that slightly perplexed expression onscreen, but the scriptwriters rarely divulge what’s behind it. I think you’ve captured her thoughts wonderfully.

  2. There will definitely be some adjusting. 😉 And sometimes quiet and order are overrated(says the person who seriously craves quiet and order). Great snippet.

    1. I think she’s going to find that while quiet and order help her center herself, there’s something exciting and wonderful about being knocked off center and challenged to adapt, too….but we’ll see…

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
