Another Year’s Growth; July 30, 2017

Well, it has been a year, hasn’t it?

Yesterday was my birthday – 48 trips around a small yellow sun. It’s been….an eventful year, in an eventful life.

Let’s say that.

Yesterday was full of contrasts. I won’t call them “good” or “bad.” As Shakespeare said, “Tis nothing good nor bad but thinking makes it so,”

I woke to a cleaner house, thanks to my Accomplice. I worked on my Patreon page, which I’ve been at now long enough to gestate a baby. I’d decided I was going to finally launch on my birthday, and I’d worked on it until I fell asleep.

My son and I had plans to attend a performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Congress Park in Saratoga Springs – a very pretty location where we’ve taken in the Bard more than once. But, when we stopped for gas – we couldn’t fill the car. All the gas just leaked out the bottom.

I called my Accomplice, and he came on his motorcycle, found a hole in the intake tube, and used a funnel and a gas can to get us enough gas – but by that time, both Jeremiah and I had been more or less stranded for close to an hour, so we decided we’d be happy to just come home again.

It was a good choice for me. I had half of the delicious goat cheese crouton, poached pear, and pecan salad I’d asked for. I finished my Patreon page and launched it, I worked on blog posts, and added 1,171 words to my word count for Still Nameless. And there will be a performance of Twelfth Night next week, so….

                                               Birthday Salad!

Do you roll with the punches when plans get catty-wompus?

Or do you find it harder to adapt and find those silver linings?

  • CampNoWriMo: Write 66,666 words (average 2,151/day) of Still Nameless (Kifo Island #8). 68,280/66,666 words. Will add another 1,111/day till month’s end. Primary goal COMPLETED!

How ironic, that the person who had been her jailer would be the one to open the door to this prison she’d locked herself into the day Marilyn and Lavender died.

  • Blogposts: Write new material at least 2 hours/week. Continue on with series in progress/JuNoWriMo words. 2 hours, or close to it. Secondary goal.

  • Play with fan fiction as desired; because Trip and T’Pol say so. Reworked a snippet for WIPpet Wednesday. Stretch goal.

He had engendered numerous questions for which she had no answers – and also an array of inexplicable physical symptoms, such as respiration accelerated by 4%, circulation by 8%, and the tremors that had begun in her fingertips, as they had the night the strange music seemed to bind them together.

Social Media:

  • Blogging: Polish/package/schedule/publish relevant blogposts to return to restore/maintain regular blogging schedule for July. WIPpet Wednesday. Primary goal; some progress.

  • Other Platforms: Post twice weekly to my Facebook Writer pageand once weekly to Instagram Complete Patreon profile and launch. Posted my walk, with a photo of the sky, to Instagram’ 2 updates to Facebook page….AND I LAUNCHED my Patreon page (sorry for yelling; it’s been on my goals list for a long time, and I’m excited! Secondary goal; fantastic progress!

  • Continue in Twitter #writingcrew and #AllStarTrek sprints/chats regularly. Dabble in other social media (LinkedIn, Medium, Quora, Wattpad) if/as desired. Stretch goal; good progress.

  • Assist my Accomplice with his labeling/branding/platform/marketing (if this is scary for me; it’s completely alien to him). Posted to his page 2/3 times; posted to Instagram; promoted him on my Facebook timeline; explored other markets; registered for a Wednesday event; worked local market; ordered supplies for business cards/brochures. Secondary goal; great progress.

Tending goals:

  • Hometending: Spend 30 minutes at least 5x/week in mindful cleaning and/or yardtending; draft kids’ 2017-2018 IHIPs (Individualized Home Instruction Plans); complete testing submission and reporting; deal with subscriptions and other business that tends to get pushed aside. After last week’s Crazy-Happy-Busy, more rest was in order…Hometending 3/5.

  • Selftending: Spend time with my beloveds, friends, and myself; get at least one hour of physical activity 5x/week, and two hours of strenuous activity weekly (including Baby Steps to 5K); meditate and journal 8x/week. Activity: 3/5; Strenuous: 1 /2 hours; Meditation/journaling 7/8.

I am myself. I own my life, and live with three other people who own theirs. My intention is to do only those things that bring me joy, and to give myself wholly to those things I do. Writing has been my passion throughout my life, and this will become the home for my writing life...because it brings me great joy!

  1. Happy birthday(again)! Glad you’ve been able to find the silver lining of things that didn’t go quite according to plan. I do tend to have trouble doing that myself. Looks like a lot of good progress this week, too. Great job!

    1. I’ve had lots of practice in “rolling with it.” Generally, stressing about how it should have been makes me feel worse, so I do everything I can to avoid going there…and most things eventually turn out OK. Saturday was one of those, and there will be Shakespeare this weekend, as well.

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
