Hi there!

We’re now seven days into #JuNoWriMo, and my new goals/priority structure. At the last update, I said I was a little fatigued. I’m considerably more than that, as I type this. I haven’t slept more than 2 or 3 hours at a stretch for two days, as I adjust to the new schedule and host #JuNoWriMo sprints.

After tonight, I get a break from hosting for three nights. I enjoy contributing, but I’m also looking forward to that break – a chance to renew, reset, and, maybe most importantly, REST!

But that’s not here yet, and the time for an update is, so, off we go!

Drafting:

  • JuNoWriMo: Write 50,000 words of raw material for blog posts. Primary goal. 9,937/50,000 words.Non-fiction is slower for me than fiction. Just a shade below target.

Plotting:

  • JuNoWriMo: Plot/outline blog posts as needed to complete the drafting goal above. Secondary goal. Picking up a bit of pace, but don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, because that can be confusing. A few ahead of the writing. On target.

 

Revising:

  • Look at the #StoryADay critique group; choose one of my last two SN stories and submit for peer review. Take action as indicated to polish the story; share for #StoryFest. Story submitted; first two critiques read; simmering. Stretch goal *

*Stretch goals are that “little bit extra”; things that might make me uncomfortable, but will facilitate further growth. They will be in the background, mostly, so they don’t scare me too much! =)

Social Media:

  • Blogging: Revise/polish/package relevant blogposts in order to return to a regular blogging schedule. Designate reblogged/repurposed posts or work ahead to cover July’s schedule. Posting has begun; not back on a regular basis yet. Primary goal.

  • Continue in Twitter #writingcrew and #AllStarTrek sprints/chats regularly. Dabble in other social media (LinkedIn, Medium, Quora, Wattpad) if/as desired. Both  hashtags Sunday-Tuesday. Stretch goal.

Business:

  • Assist my Accomplice with his labeling/branding/platform/marketing (if this is scary for me; it’s completely alien to him). Secondary goal. My laptop is on one network; I can’t seem to get my printer to make the leap, so I’m using a very short USB cable. I still managed to work out the sizing issue with the label; created a revision checklist and verified w/him. On target.
  • Complete Build Your Marketing Muscles  class; simmer; draft an action plan to apply what I’ve learned, and experiment with early changes/additions to my currently nearly non-existent “marketing plan.Stretch goal. Worked through new items. On target.

Tending goals:

  • Hometending: Spend time at least 5x/week in mindful cleaning and/or yardtending; complete all homeschool paperwork and testing; deal with subscriptions and other business that tends to get pushed aside; support other indie writers as I’m able. Mindful hometending: 1/5. Read and critiqued 3 short stories in preparation for StoryFest.

  • Selftending: Spend time with my beloveds, friends, and myself; get at least one hour of physical activity 5x/week, and five hours of strenuous activity weekly (including Baby Steps to 5K); meditate and journal 8x/week. Meditation/journaling 1/8 not the best week for this, so far.

  • Lifetending: Continue developing professional goals and connections; reading and audiobook listening, and The Star Trek Chronology Project. Onward w/marketing, #writingcrew, #JuNo, andcritiques. Some new tactics learned.

  1. I liked those twin ideas of creating STRETCH goals — that stretch us into new territories — and of CUTTING BACK just a little so those primary goals are met. My cut this week was in reporting for ROW80 (ouch), but I’m staying current with revising. May you have a bountiful week!

    1. It’s feeling a lot saner. I’m trying to keep things simple – two major goals at a time, and one will be JuNoWriMo, where I’m not trying to do more than to stay even. I’ve discovered that I’m far faster drafting fiction than non, but those 1667 words or so each day are adding up to some nice post material I’m getting eager to share – I even have a few series in development that have been rattling around in my brain for way longer than I’d like to admit!

      Focusing on just one other major goal at a time (and a few side ones, when I need a break from the intensity or need to tend to something) seems to be working for me. I do get ansty here and there about what hasn’t been started yet, but I know I’ll be able to focus on those things when their time comes.

      Of course, I may change things up at any time – but so far this seems to be working, and I’ve been able to cross a couple of long-standing projects off my to-do list, without losing family connection, so I’m happy.

      If taking a week off updating is what helps you meet your revision goals, I think you did the right thing by not checking in! =D

    1. I’m trying a different approach. I’m only working on two main goals at a time (#JuNoWriMo and one other – currently labels, then homeschool reports, then….?). Other things are fit into the spaces where I need a break from the Big Two. It’s helping a lot with the fatigue I felt after #StoryADay.

    1. I cut my normal goals back considerably this round. Also the stretch goals. I had more last round – too many, as a matter of fact.

      Sometimes cutting back is the most rational approach. I hope you can get beyond feeling bad about it , if that’s what you need to do right now.
