Second Look for #StoryADay May Day Fifteen

Hello there, and welcome to my Story a Day May “Show My Work” post! This is where I give you a sneak peek into how I’m creating two (very short, and very different) stories, every day this May. Yep, that’s right; less than 24 hours from my first reading of the prompt to a committed story, even if I’m not quite that fast at posting them!

Ready to read?

Well then, what are we waiting for?

Story A Day May 15’s prompt is from is from StoryADay creator Julie Duffy.

The Prompt:

Take a story you’ve written before and write it again from a different point of view.

Main Project Premise:

  • I had a nightmare last night. I woke up and started writing…. From Ophelia’s POV.

  • Ophelia wakes up to find Marilyn scribbling on everything she can.

Fleshing Out the Premise:

  • She hadn’t meant to fall asleep, but Marilyn is exhausting. She wakes to find Marilyn scribbling in her treasured Complete Works of Shakespeare – a graduation gift from Mom she lugged all this way. She’s written on the walls, sheets, dolls, and her own naked body.

My Favorite Bit of Indelible

Marilyn just stares at her for a few seconds, then goes back to her incoherent scribbling. She’s gripping the marker so hard, it’s tearing the fine pages.

Side Project Premise:

Standard disclaimer. I don’t own them, I don’t profit from them, but they insist on telling me their stories, so I’m sharing them with you.

  • I’m not dead. Meet me Tuesday night at 8 at Fusion, if you want to save my life. And it’s signed, “Your Starfleet career.” This time, from Soval’s POV.

Fleshing Out the Premise:

  • Soval visits Admiral Forrest; there is a young officer known to him for very different reasons – and it is he who stands accused in a matter that is certainly not of his doing.

Word List:

Somehow, I failed to use any prompt words in this story….life was a bit busy right then, but I really don’t know how I managed that!

Favorite Bit fromLizzie’s Tough”:

“It wasn’t exactly my choice, sir.”

“Explain.”

“Uh – my sister – do I have to tell you?”
