The Passion Feeds Work Feeds Passion Edition: #weekendcoffeeshare for April 8, 2017

If we were having coffee, I’d start with an apology. It’s not because the house is a bit less tidy and clean than it was the last time you stopped by, even though it is. It’s more a matter that here we are, back at another weekend – and it’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve had you over.

That wasn’t my plan. I really meant to invite you these last two weeks – but it just didn’t happen. Maybe if I’d been able to get a bit more done, or there had been more time, or fewer Other Things….

But life was what it was, I did what I did, and I didn’t get to a place where my scattered thoughts would let me stop and sip coffee with you.

The last time I posted here, I talked about my Creative Chaos Marathon (trademark). What I didn’t expect was how much of my “free time” the preparations for the CCM would chew up during the latter half of March.

Something to remember for next year, and maybe to avoid, since I’ve already had an idea for the Blogging From A-Z April Challenge, and started building it into a plan that will be actionable in odd moments during the year ahead.

Now that I’ve done my excessive explanation and apologies, I’d like to share something I think is pretty amazing.

Oh, well – first, let me slow down, take a deep breath, and let you get settled. The table in the family room is a safe bet for our get together; let me just slide those piles of kids’ books I’ve slowly been sorting off to one side, unless you’d like to browse our collection of Laura Ingalls Wilder, My Side of the Mountain, or whatever else is in those stacks.

A few weeks ago, we chatted about work in various forms, including my Accomplice’s efforts to get his cottage hot sauce industry launched. That’s been going on alongside my own projects. Eventually, we came up with a prototype logo image, and I sent it on to my friend Jaz Johnson, who is a graphic design wizard.

Don’t believe me? This was what I gave her:

And this is what she created, contacting us along the way to get feedback:
Isn’t he adorable?

So, earlier today (OK, that’s not really true, because I’m writing this on Thursday night), I set to the business of creating a prototype label for the first batch of habanero mango sauce. I did something I’ve been wanting to do for a couple of years, and checked Canva for a template.

I’m so glad I did! A couple of hours, and I had something my Accomplice really likes:

He does have a couple of things he needs to check out, and a couple of changes he’ll need me to make, but, overall, it was a lot smoother than I thought it might be – actually, it was FUN! I haven’t been delving very much into design elements lately, and I had almost forgotten how much I love playing with this kind of thing.

It’s always a bonus when helping someone else means indulging a talent and passion that I’ve been neglecting. It adds a level of pleasure to what’s already pretty cool – helping my Accomplice realize his dream.

But now, it’s time for me to get back to my own fictional dreaming. I’m 13,000 words into my ~65,000 word #CampNaNoWriMo novel. It’s the seventh volume I’ve drafted for my Kifo Island series. A major project of the next couple of years will be focusing on revisions for this series, and getting them into chronological order so that I can proceed with publishing and marketing. Those are stages of my nascent business plan which once seemed very far off, but are quickly drawing nearer.

Being a small part of my Accomplice realizing his dreams makes me even more aware that my own may require a lot of focused effort to attain, but that attaining them is  possible.

Of course, one of the major steps on that journey is finishing this draft. That’s what I’ll be focusing on after we wrap up our visit.

  1. I’m impressed with your word count! I wrote on my #CampNaNo project on the first and haven’t had a chance to get back to it. I’m hoping to get back to it today when my tummy stops doing flip flops… which is why I’d love to try your Habanero Mango sauce, but I’d better not. But the logo and the label look Awesome! Good luck with the writing and the other as well! And see you around the Coffee Share!

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
