Building a Writing Structure: My 2017 ROW80 End of Round One Update

Hey there!

ROW80 Round One has ended, which means it’s time to evaluate where I am on my 2017 goals before I set my sights on Round Two. My aspirations for the year are soaring; now’s the time to measure the reality…

Do you have aspirations for the year?
How are you progressing toward them?

Writing:

  • Complete short stories for #StAD May and September.

  • Complete Rose and Jeremy and Philodosia novella rough drafts.

  • Create fan fiction, continuing current story arcs, and developing new ones as I’m drawn to them. New collection of drabbles; new chapters for three stories; three more in planning/drafting. This will be an ongoing project, with more drabbles and chapters planned for Round Two.

  • OctPoWriMo: Draft 31 new poems.


Plotting:

  • Rose and Jeremy and Philodosia novellas: Plan/plot remaining chapters. Began plotting Rose and Jeremy #2; Step 12/22.

  • Kifo Island: Plan/plot two novels for 2017, using The Story Toolkit. Create timeline and series bible. Timeline and series bible COMPLETED! Plotting for novel 1 /2; The Last House: Step 7/22 in progress.

  • Trueborn Weft: Plan/plot one new novel.

  • Monthly Challenges: Story a Day: Rough sketches/plots for 31 May and 30 September stories. 

  • The IDIC Romance: Timeline: Begin TnT fan fictionEnterprise/TOS crossover epic timeline. Take notes and simmer future projects while creating timeline. Star Trek Chronology Project: Watch episodes 183 –350. Projects simmering and in creation; timeline underway. Episodes complete through 250; on target to complete this goal.

Revision:

  • Short Stories: Complete revisions on “Miss Spider and Mister Fly;”and “Presence.” “MsaMF” awaitting copy editing; nothing more needed until then.

  • Kifo Island: Sea Changes: Complete rough revision for crit group, and complete second revison using Holly Lisle’s HTRYN plan. (Adapted goal). Scene 7/24 submitted to the group.

  • Revise Rose and Jeremy and Philodosia novellas.

  • Fan Fiction: On Any Tuesday Night (was First Contact; With Jazz). using Holly Lisle’s How to Revise Your Novel class materials; Love and Loss  and A Backdrop of Stars;   other stories/chapters as desired. Chapter 2/7 of ABOS in progress. FCWJ: Lesson 2/22 in progress; p. 11/82.

  • Complete revisions on existing poetry. A bit of information gathering.

Submission/Publication:

  • Miss Spider and Mister Fly”: Return edited mss to editors; follow through until publication. At a waiting point; see above.

  • Self-Publish A Splash of Red,” “Monday Morning Coffee,” Philodosia novella, and at least one poetry chapbook. “ASOR”: Played with/consulted artist on cover art and gathered lists of front/end matter. “MMC”: Sharing snippets at #8sunday; lots of positive feedback.

  • Fan Fiction: Submit On Any Tuesday Night; Love and Loss, and A Backdrop of Stars to fan fiction sites as completed. One chapter of ABOS revised and submitted.

  • Research at least ten new short story venues. Gathering a list of publications accepting submission.

Website/Blogging:

  • Synchronize blog and website; brand together; create pages for site; expand visibility. Synchronization and branding progressing. Roughly sketched list of pages needed.

Hometending:

  • Complete all 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 homeschool paperwork and required testing; assess to see when Jeremiah completes high school requirements. IHIPs, and first and second quarter reports completed. Assessed Miah’s requirements; he should be able to complete them by the time he’s sixteen, or soon thereafter.

  • Organize all files on laptop and email files. Some progress in several directories here.

  • Scan all analog photos; organize into files. All travel photos scanned.

  • Complete reorganizations/resets of family room, study, kitchen, and porch. Maintain. Progress being made in the rooms listed.

  • Continue reorganizations/resets of living room, bedroom, bathroom. Declutter/beautify yard. Moving forward; gathering velocity.

Lifetending:

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Yes, every week.

  • Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. Yes, every week.

  • NNWM local group: Interact regularly, in person and online; participate actively in critique group. Yes; more or less.

  • Paying it Forward: Offer beta reading, reviews, and promotional posts for other writers. Two promotional posts completed; beta’ing chapters.

Selftending:

  • Increase journaling and meditation to morning and evenings, daily. Getting more consistent at this.

  • Increase cumulative moderate physical activity to at least 2 hours, 6 days weekly, and 12 hours strenuous activities (tai chi, swimming, hiking, cadio, weights, etc) monthly by end of year. Up to 99 minutes 5/week; 111 minutes 2/week, and 6 hours/month at Round One finish.

  • Intuitive Eating: Begin applying principles to my own eating habits.
  • Smart Change: Develop and begin pursuing a plan to change one habit. Reading and began worksheets.

Leaps of Faith:

  • Return part-time to the workplace. Creating a CV.

  • Create a marketing/business plan. Gathering resources; doing some reading; book purchased.

  • Assist my Accomplice in creating his business plan/job search/product marketing. Printing, online help, labeling/logo assistance; writing letters.
