First Church in Albany: Skywatch Friday from December 2016

Well, it’s been a while since I took these images, planning to include them in a Skywatch Friday post the following week…since that was in early December, I think it’s safe to say that that didn’t actually happen.

It got lost in an abundance of change…My Accomplice, who thought he had landed a job in a good kitchen, began to find more and more troubling details, and when he was fired under false pretenses, he was maybe more happy to go than they were to have him go. So, life shifted – and then, a couple of weeks ago, he took another job, where he’s much happier. After decades of working evenings, his day begins for breakfast, and ends after lunch. At the same time, we’ve both been busy working through the many steps necessary for him to begin legally selling his artisanal hot sauces.

We’re getting close now, though – and so, here I am to finally get this long-overdue Skywatch Friday post completed, so I can share it with you.

I took these images at the First Church in Albany, New York, which is the Dutch Reformed Church that Philip Schuyler and his family belonged to, and where Alexander Hamilton’s eulogy was read on July 29, 1804 – 165 years to the day before I was born.

Seeing this grand old historical church, and learning more of the life that happened within and around was exultant, sobering, uplifting, and weighty, all at the same time. I hope that comes through in my images of the sky through several perspectives.

Life is like that – looking at things from various perspectives can shift what we see, and what we understand…

After you enjoy these perspectives on the sky, pop over to Skywatch Friday to view more sky photos, and/or share your own…and keep looking up!

    1. Thank you! It was one of the first truly cold days of the season, but it was warm and inviting inside, so I didn’t mind taking some pictures outside.
My one regret is that I wasn’t able to get a good angle for a shot of the rooster weathervane. It’s a replica of one that had been atop the church since the 1600s, and was sometimes used for target practice. That rooster is displayed inside.
In an upcoming post, I’ll have shots of the street the church is on. Albany has grown up around it, making for some interesting contrasts.

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
