A Prosperity of Progress: November 23, 2016

Hey there!

I thought I’d try something different this week:

I wrote a paragraph each of life-as-it-happened, Monday and Tuesday…and I’m sharing them with you! =)

Monday:

  • There’s snow on the ground, some order returning to our home and our lives, and we’re getting used to my Accomplice’s newly variable work schedule (for the last nine years, he worked a very regular schedule). The kids and I spent some time in hometending, and my fifteen year old son and I shared some Billy Joel classic videos– he played “Piano Man, which is a mutual favorite, and I introduced him to Allentown” and Goodbye, Saigon” – two of my favorites. My twelve year old daughter and I have been sharing a current interest of hers, the twisted and somewhat gruesome absurdist cartoon humor of “Llamas With Hats.” After that connection, we went on to our own activities – which means I focused on reading, blogging, and writing – as I type this, I’ve started the penultimate scene of Tsunamis.

Tuesday:

  • The kids have spent a good deal of today out playing in the snow. Miah’s developed an interest in coffee. Now they’re And I’ve got two characters in the final scene of Tsunamis who were intended to die, but had other, more intriguing ideas for their futures…yup. I’m on the last scene; I expect to finish it at tonight’s write-in. I think I’m going to be as surprised as anyone else at the ending, because I definitely didn’t plan for this!

For all those who celebrate Thanksgiving, and any who practice gratitude, may your observances be filled with a wealth of joy!

Note: Only those goals I interacted with during this session are listed. For complete goals lists, follow the links below.

Writing:

  • NaNoWriMo: Complete draft of Tsunamis (KIC#6); 24 Scenes, ~65,000 words. Primary goal. Scene 24/24 complete; final word count: 62,946/~65,000 words). Also a good deal of associated research, and a completely reworked ending, since two characters originally meant to die didn’t agree with my master plan. Goal completed!

Plotting:

Revision:

  • The IDIC Romance: ReviseFirst Contact, With Jazz and get it in the hands of waiting betas. Revise Chapters 4-7 of A Backdrop of Stars; review 1-3; Love and Loss. Primary goal. Gathered materials for “FC,WJ” and highlighted first three paragraphs for revision. Simmering, but I have an idea how to approach what had been a tricky opening.

  • Kifo Island: Submit Sea Changes scenes 5-8 to critique group. Critique crit partners’ work as posted. Side goal. Setting this aside for the rest of the month; we’ve decided to put the group on hold until January.

Social Media:

  • Make regular visits to others participating in hops and challenges I’ve joined. This will be a Thursday/Monday focus. Primary goal. Visited one #8sunday so far. Not great, but I’ve been focused on finishing the novel.

  • Interaction: Visit website, blog, ROW80, Albany NNWM, and Yakon Village FB pages; ff.net; Twitter; Instagram; and Pinterest at least weekly, each site. Secondary goal.
  • Continue in situ website design, with a focus on bringing in the various facets of my life in a more cohesive manner. Post one reblog and two snippets each week. This is a Friday/Tuesday focus. Tertiary goal. I scheduled my first post here, for WIPpet Wednesday.

Hometending:

  • Complete resets/reorganizations: study, family room, and porch. Use the 27 Thing Fling for structure/4 each per week. Add in 22 cycles a week for random indoor/outdoor tidying/hometending. Primary goal. (For the week): Random: 13/22; study: 4/4. Hometending helps me unsnarl plotlines, so there was a good deal of hometending as I worked through my adapted ending!

  • Homeschool Administration: Gather info/draft first quarter reports (due 12/15). Create Flickr portfolio for Miah; continue to file to Lise’s. Secondary goal. Completed Lise’s English Language Usage and Library Skills; 2/10 sections complete.

  • Personal Administration: Clean, organize, and back up all OneDrive Homeschool, Blogging, and Beta Reading files. Maintain email below 99 messages. Tertiary goal. Wednesday/Saturday focus. Kept the email at a much more reasonable level; spikes only into the 200-range.
  • Yard Beautification: Declutter outgrown kid-things and random life debris. Side goal. May have a place to rehome little-kid playground stuff.

Lifetending:

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. Primary goal. Conversation; television; music; videos; research and lots of career brainstorming with my teen.

  • NNWM local group: Interact regularly online and in person. Secondary goal. Visited FB page/ online sprints; write-in.

Selftending:

  • Journal six times each week. Gradually increase meditation to ten minutes six mornings, and four minutes three evenings. Primary goal. 3/6 journaling; 1/6 morning meditation.

  • Fitness: Get a cumulative total of at least 75 minutes moderate physical activity 5 days weekly, 90 minutes thrice weekly. Secondary goal. 70: 3/5; 90: 2/3.

  1. Yay for finishing the draft and for characters surprising you. Looks like a lot of good progress so far this week.
I’m starting to figure out my theme for A-Z, have an idea simmering, but we’ll see if it pans out.

    1. I tried on several before I hit on the just-right one, and I’ve been having fun with it. I’ve made pretty good progress on it, and I’m confident that I can have most if not all of the posts drafted by the end of the year. Then I’ll just need to polish, embellish, and schedule, add a Theme Reveal post, and I’ll be in a better place than I’ve ever been for A-Z. Pretty exciting!

Today, I dug back into my “first time TnT encounter one another” fanfic, and The Far Shore (the Kifo book I set aside in July, and want to finish by year’s end.

It feels good to get to some of the things further down my priorities list before the month is over!

      Happy Thanksgiving, Fallon!

  2. I love that you refer to gratitude as a practice. It is indeed something we must regularly practice, or else we lose touch with our authentic selves (who I believe don’t really care about money or keeping up with the Joneses or any of that; they just want to be). Practicing gratitude is, I believe, essential to a well-lived life.

    Enjoy your holiday, Shan Jeniah!

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
