A Wealth of Activity: October 26, 2016

It’s time for a midweek ROW80 Update!

I’m doing this on the speedy side, because, as the title suggests, I’ve got lots going on. It’s 1:45 AM local time, and I just saw Orion in the sky for the first time on this chill upstate New York late-October night.

I want to get this post, and my WIPpet Wednesday post done, and maybe two poems drafted, before I sleep a bit, then take my fifteen year old son on a road trip to Fort Ticonderoga, in the Adirondacks, where there are collections of personal effects of Philip Schuyler, his daughter Angelica Schuyler Church, and his son-in-law…wait for it…Alexander Hamilton, including his writing box from the Battle of Yorktown.

This will wrap up our Hamiltoning for a few weeks, but there is a Hamilton’s Albany exhibit happening at the Albany Institute of History and Art through the end of the year, and the local PBS station will be airing a special on the same topic in December. Also, we have dear friends who live very near Princeton, New Jersey, where Aaron Burr is buried, and the kids and I are all interested in old cemeteries, so that’s a visit that might happen in the not-distant future.

For now, though – setting up this update, grabbing a hot shower while thinking about poetry and rewriting, then pulling it all together…

All in all, a good session, with a more focused approach that moved some things a good deal further along…

Note: Only those goals I engaged with during this session are listed. For complete lists, click links below:

Writing:

  • Poets on the Page: Write 31 new poems in October, using OctPoWriMo prompts. Secondary goal. 24/31 complete. One behind; will write 2 today (on the road, if needed.

Plotting:

  • Kifo Island Chonicles: Complete planning (Beginning with Setting worksheets, and ending with Story World Mandalas) and plot Tsunamis. Primary goal. Finished Story World Mandalas, the last step of the planning stage. Basic Scene list completed; 2/24 scene cards completed.

  • Plot #atozchallenge posts while writing October poems. Secondary goal. Week One (just letter A this year): Poem drafted; other two components simmering. Week Two (B -G): B and C poems written. Week Three (HM): Poem descriptions copy-pasted. Week Four (N-S): Poem type selected. Week Five (T-Z): Titles selected. This is moving fairly quickly at the moment, because the many moving parts fit well into small spaces between my larger projects, so are perfect for breaks.

Revision:

  • For Submission: Revise “Peach Liqueur Love” for Dark and Bitter; first “Philodosia” story for The Machinery: and “Beneath the Ice” for World Unknown Review. Primary goal. Made general notes; color-coded and made scene-specific notes through Scene Thirteen. Created Basic Scene Outline for rewrite.

    1. I do. Home from Fort Ti now, and tired (slept about 2 hours). But I got those two posts up, and I’ve got ideas for the poems, and I’m going to have some coffee. If that helps, I’ll do some revision planning and work on scene cards. If it doesn’t – a nap, first, then writing.

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
