Transitional Prosperity: October 23, 2016

It’s time for a ROW80 Writing Update!

Hey there! How are things with you this fine Sunday (or whatever day you’re reading this, if it’s not Sunday).

It’s sunny here, after three overcast rainy days. I’m not complaining – we’re in a drought, so the rain was wanted and needed. But the sunshine – ahh, it’s making this fresh-scrubbed land gleam, and that makes me smile.

Of course, I might also be smiling because I’m watching Hamilton’s America for the third time. =D Or that my daughter and I visited Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site on Thursday….

And, on Friday, my husband went for an impromptu working interview, and was offered a job – so the rhythm of our lives is going to change again, as the fall moves on.

Somehow, I still managed to have a pretty productive writing session. I finished the #StaD stories; caught up with my poems for OctPoWriMo, and dug into the revision work for “Beneath the Ice” (title will change).

How’s the weather where you are?

Have you gotten out to enjoy it?

What did you do?

Through the magic of Instagram, I enhanced this tree, reflected in a puddle on the slate walkway of the Schuyler Mansion gardens.

“Writing the Ending” (TnT/Philodosia):

There was a time of silence, as the fog rolled back over the Hudson.

Then, from some nearby farm, there was the crow of a cock, greeting the rising sun.

Note: Only those goals with which I engaged are included in this update. Links to full goals posts below:

Writing:

  • The IDIC Romance: Finish any #STaD stories still pending. Primary goal. Story 5/5 (TnT/Philodosia) complete: 6,740 words total.
  • Poets on the Page : Write 31 new poems in October, using OctPoWriMo prompts. Secondary goal. 22/31 complete. I got as far as 11 poems behind, but I’m now caught up, thanks to Friday and Saturday poetic surges.

Plotting:

  • Plot #atozchallenge posts while writing October poems. Secondary goal. I’m going to let this simmer until December, so I can weed through the several ideas I’ve had for the challenge. Secondary goals. So…I typed that, and then I had The Idea – complete with the nebulous beginnings of several posts. I guess that means that this is back in the mix, even if only in a scattery way.

Revision:

  • For Submission: Revise “Peach Liqueur Love” for Dark and Bitter; first “Philodosia” story for The Machinery; and “Beneath the Ice” for World Unknown Review. Primary goal. Reread existing material; decided on a radical rewrite. Made general notes; color-coded and made scene-specific notes through Scene Five (page 18/36 in progress).

  • Kifo Island: Submit Sea Changes scenes 5-8 to critique group. Critique crit partners’ work as posted. Secondary goal. Back-Burnering (BB).

  • The IDIC Romance: ReviseFirst Contact, With Jazz and get it in the hands of waiting betas. Revise Chapters 4-7 of A Backdrop of Stars; review 1-3; Love and Loss. Tertiary goal. BB.

Social Media:

  • Make regular visits to others participating in hops and challenges I’ve joined. This will be a Thursday/Monday focus. Primary goal. Some ROW80; all WIPpeteers.

  • Interaction: Visit website, blog, ROW80, Albany NNWM, and Yakon Village FB pages; ff.net; Twitter; Instagram; and Pinterest at least twice weekly, each site. Once each for green items.
  • Continue in situ website design, with a focus on bringing in the various facets of my life in a more cohesive manner. This will be a Friday/Tuesday focus. Tertiary goal. Changed title page and linked to my WP blog. WIPpet Wednesday and #8sunday post. Played with Amazon’s new Prime Photos, which should ease many of my between-device sharing issues; set up begun for two weekend posts.

Hometending:

  • Complete resets/reorganizations: study, family room, and porch. Use the 27 Thing Fling for structure/4 each per week. Add in 20 cycles a week for random indoor/outdoor tidying/hometending. Primary goal. Random inside/outside: 24/20; study 5/4.

  • Homeschool Administration: Gather info for first quarter reports. Create Flickr portfolio for Miah; continue to file to Lise’s. Secondary goal. Added a few Schuyler Mansion photos for Lise.

  • Personal Administration: Clean, organize, and back up all OneDrive Homeschool, Blogging, and Beta Reading files. Maintain email below 99 messages. Tertiary goal.

Lifetending:

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. Primary goal. Conversation; flirting; Tesla documentary; canoodling; Schuyler Mansion and Hamilton’s America with my girl. Planning to go back for Twelfth Night festivities on January 7.

  • NNWM local group: Interact regularly online and in person; participate actively in critique group. Secondary goal; critique group likely on hold or very slow until after NaNo.

  • Paying it Forward: Offer beta reading, reviews, and promotional posts for other writers. Tertiary goal. BB.

Selftending:

  • Journal six times each week. Gradually increase meditation to ten minutes six mornings, and four minutes three evenings. Primary goal. Journaling: 6/6; Meditation morning: 4/6 (ten minutes; it’s getting easier, but this was an “off” week); evening: 2/3 (2 minutes).

  • Fitness: Get a cumulative total of at least 75 minutes moderate physical activity 5 days weekly, 90 minutes thrice weekly. Secondary goal. 75 min: 5/5; 90 min: 3/3.

  • Tai chi class, swimming, strength, and/or cardio training for a cumulative total of twelve hours. Tertiary goal. 30 minutes; monthly total: 4 hours; 40 minutes.

Leaps of Faith:

  • Submit stories to Dark and Bitter; The Machinery; and World Unknown Review. Primary goal. WUR: In progress.

  • The IDIC Romance: Submit chapters 4-7 of A Backdrop of Stars to fanfiction.net; begin submitting to either Ad Astra or Triaxian Silk. Secondary goal. BB.

  • Self-publish “A Splash of Red”; experimental project. Tertiary goal. BB.

  1. Congratulations on Hubby’s new job. Yeah!

I came up with the perfect analogy today for the weather where I live, at least for this time of year. A co-worker was venting about the mood swings of her hormonal daughter. Yup, just like our weather, give it a day or even a few hours and it will swing the other way!

It was sunny and cold here today, cloudy and cool yesterday and sunny and warm the day before. Who knows.

  2. Congrats on your hubby’s job offer. Another fork in the road. Looks like things are flowing your way. I am a bit late. I made another typo again.
Anyways the weather has its moods, hopefully it would rain over in your nick of woods.
I turn on my baseboard heater half way, allowing to shut off automatically. Insulation worked its charm, now im somewhat ready for lady winter.

  3. Congrats to your husband on the job offer. And yay to you for getting caught up and all your progress. We’ve gotten a good bit rain the last few days, too. Getting chilly here. We ran our pellet stove yesterday, mostly to make sure it ran okay before it gets really cold.

    1. We’ve got things in front of the wood stove, and no wood yet except what’s in the yard. But the heater is working fine. No rain the last two days, but chilly.

So far, Jim’s enjoying the new job. At the very least, he will learn some things there, and that’s a bonus. There’s also the potential for a fairly quick uptick in his pay scale, once he completes the probationary period.

It feels weird to have him gone to work, after 3 and a half months of getting to have him here.

I guess those scattered and slow days last week were prepping me for a surge – or maybe it’s the shakeup in our schedule. This week will have some away from home activities, too, and Halloween, so I’ll have to see what I can get done. Yesterday was very productive, though, and, so far, today has been too, so hopefully that’s a trend. =)

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
