Hidden Prosperity: October 16, 2016

Hey there!

How are you this fine Sunday (insert whatever day you happen to be reading this)?

This round, I’m focusing on prosperity….but what does prosperity mean, exactly? If it’s having financial independence – well, my family and I are rather far from that, at the moment. I expect that’s going to change within the next few months, but it may be a few more than that before we’re back in a more balanced state.

The thing is, I’m not especially motivated by money, and I never have been. If our children were grown instead of growing, there’d be very little worry for me in this financial ebb. With growing children, it becomes more important to have the funds to feed, clothe, and offer them some opportunities.

Fortunately, we tend toward a simple lifestyle. We own our older, well-worn home and cars outright. We carry very little debt; we’re needing to be careful with money, these days, but we aren’t in dire straits. We’re OK.

There’s prosperity in being able to move through difficult times without piling stress on top of uncertainty. It’s the prosperity of simplicity.

It’s been a prosperous week for me, writing-wise. My focus was on the two short stories I wanted to submit – one a short story, and the other flash fiction. The short story was in a considerable state of disarray; as I pieced it together and teased out themes, symbolism, coherence, and sensory detail, I realized that there’s a hidden prosperity in having the desire, commitment, and ability to bring the ideas that rattle around in my mind out onto the screen, shape them, tend them – and release them into the world.

Have you discovered any hidden prosperity in your life lately?

  1. Financial prosperity has never meant much to me either. Right now the Hubby is working a ton of overtime, and I look at the checkbook and go, “holy cow, all the bills are paid for this month already. Which credit card balance should I put the rest of the money towards?” We’ve never, ever been ahead on the bills before. It actually makes me nervous coz I don’t want to become complacent about our finances.

I’ve instead been prosperous with family, blessed with two of the most wonderful kids and the perfect husband, as well as the my dog.

As far as my writing, since I just signed a book contract last week, I guess I’m prosperous there as well.

    Hope your prosperity continues.

    1. It’s quite a song – the Steven Universe angle was for my daughter, who is definitely a fangirl.

Almost all of the things that are the most precious to me don’t come with a price tag. When finances are less fluid and plentiful, it’s good to remember that. =)

    1. That’s my next project. It won’t be the story I was originally expecting to write, but this one’s already written and won’t need a huge investment of time and attention to revise and re-polish, so that’s the one I’m going to submit, and hopefully, the other story, a sequel to last year’s, will be ready next year…

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
