An Exploration of Purpose: ROW80 Round Three 2016 Final Update

Welcome to my ROW80 Round Three Wrap-Up!

Overall, it was a good round. There’s a lot of green here, and the sprinkling of blue offsets the smattering of red. I was clearly more focused on some goals than others; I set a few aside as currently not priorities, or unattainable under current circumstances.

I feel there’s plenty here with which to build my Round Four goals, and I’m excited to get that process underway this week.

What will you do with the last quarter of the year?

Writing:

  • Kifo Island Chronicles: Complete draft of The Far Shore, and draft Tsunamis. The Far Shore (1 /2) currently in drafting; Scene 8/24 in progress; 21,533 /~65,000 words. Moving Tsunamis to November, as my NaNo project. 1,081 new words added to TFS. It’s not much, but it’s something.
  • The IDIC Romance/Philodosia”: Begin 30 stories/chapters/scenes for #StaD September, using existing threads and ideas with the daily and guest prompts. Draft one story each day, until end of round late in the month; mostly a success; a bit behind at times. A solid green.
  • Trueborn Warp/Weft Series: Foul Deeds Will Rise: Trueborn Weft Series #2: Complete draft. FDWR Saving for 2017 (maybe April?).
  • Monday Morning Coffee Sequel”: Draft a short story or novella, 5,000-25,000 word range. Saving for Round 4.

Plotting:

  • Trueborn Warp/Weft Series: Decide on November project. Complete character mapping and basic story elements. Setting this goal aside till 2017; Tsunamis will be my NaNo project this year.

  • Monday Morning Coffee Sequel”: Plan/plot this short story/novella, using The Writer’s Coloring Book. Only thoughts; no progress; set aside.

Revision:

  • Kifo Island Chronicles: Beginning in August, rough revise and submit a scene from Sea Changes (Kifo Island Chronicles #1) to crit group weekly. Not as fast as I’d like; need to re-evaluate the time frame in Round Four. Currently working on Scene 5/24 Rough Revision Pass #1, where I track changes.

  • Revise “Peach Liqueur Love” using Sarah Selecky’s Deep Revision process. Nothing new; set aside.

  • The IDIC Romance: ReviseFirst Contact, With Jazz”, using The Writer’s Coloring Book and submit to patiently waiting betas. I’ve begun compiling and organizing the comments from my crit group for 4/16 scenes. Nothing. Set aside.

Social Media:

  • Blog/Website Transition: Adapt and keep to regular posting schedule. Answer comments, and return visits at least twice weekly. Share all new posts to website beginning in August; learn how to use galleries and gain skill at posting to pages and adding relevant content. Aim for soft reveal at end of September. Deleted scheduling and post sharing; I’ll deal with those once things are well-shifted. Progress in other areas ongoing as I learn my way around. A green here, overall.
  • ROW80: Sponsor duties up-to-date throughout the year, including four sponsor posts. Round Three submitted; 4/4 complete. I submitted an extra post for Round Three, and Kait is changing up the format, and dropping sponsor posts, for Round Four. A nice pretty blue here.
  • Develop a rough, rational rhythm for visiting blogs and hop participants. Doing better, overall.

Hometending:

  • Homeschool Administration: Complete all pending paperwork, testing, etc. Create Flickr portfolios, by year, or roughly so, for both children. A solid green – all paperwork done, but a bit stalled on portfolio stuff. Needs more thought and direction.

  • Personal Administration: Clean, organize, and back up all OneDrive files; delete excess. Breaking the goal down helped; it will take a while, though.
  • Yard Beautification: Maintain in an increasingly presentable manner; declutter outgrown kid-things and random life debris. A little weeding and decluttering.
  • Cancel five digital subscriptions we no longer need. 4/5; a solid green.

Lifetending:

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Major success; major delight! This one’s pretty easy, and the payout is huge. =)

  • Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. Yes! We’ve suddenly exploded into outside activities, after months of mostly “cocooning” at home. September has been a whirlwind!

  • NNWM local group: Interact regularly, in person and online; participate actively in critique group and beta reading. Interaction was adequate; not much happening, caught up; submitted once, with another on the way. Beta read project canceled; author going another way. Calling this a solid green.

Selftending:

  • Smart Change: Do prep work; choose a contribution to focus on. Bbing till Round Four.
  • Write in Abundance and #onegoodcup journals, and meditate for at least five minutes five times each weekly. Explore one new meditative practice each month. Deleting the new meditative practice; I’m settling in with what I have for a while. Journaling was good; meditation fair.

  • Get a cumulative total of at least 60 minutes moderate physical activity 5 days weekly, and more strenuous activities five times weekly. Better in August;better yet in the latter half of 2016. Not giving this a blue; but it’s a solid green – I’m on my way, and have a plan. =)

Leaps of Faith:

  • The IDIC Romance: Finish revisions for “Love and Loss” chapters 1-20 at ff.net. Nothing new; still on Chapter Four (and a reread says those first chapters could use another pass, too.)

  • A Splash of Red”; compile notes and do pre-self-publication revision pass. Create at least three cover mockups before consulting my local cover designer. Nothing new; setting aside for Round Four.

  • Poetry Chapbooks: Do rough setup for Trek poetry chapbook. A few poems gathered.

  • Business cards: Play with creating three designs; investigate VistaPrint. Nothing new.

  • Complete resets/reorganizations in study and family room. Some. Picked up momentum later in the round, as I adopted a new tactic.
