Purposefully Poised – August 31, 2016

Hey there, ROWers and others!

Lately, I’ve been starting out with a bit of what I’m writing:

From A Mutually Acceptable Emotional Language”, a Star Trek: Enterprise fan fiction story WIP (Standard disclaimer applies -no infringement intended; no money made!):

  • He’d brought three sets of “Starfleet blues” and two changes of off-duty clothes. It pleased her in ways she didn’t fully understand that he’d brought more than what was needed for a single night.

From The Far Shore (Kifo Island Chronicles #4):

  • You’ve come because I was made a tool tonight.” It was quiet, certain. The child’s deep brown eyes held her gaze, and there was nothing of shock in them.

Here we are, at the end of August. There was a lot more on my list for this month than I could get to. Of course, I do have the rest of the day, so I’ll be sharing my August wrap-up on Sunday. I’ll also be unveiling September’s goals, with Round Three and 2016 goals updates happening in the next week or two.

I’m also on the verge of my second creative marathon of the year:

A week ago, I didn’t feel even a little bit ready for these challenges. Since then, I’ve done quite a bit of research, made some plans, and revised my expectations, and I’m now standing on the threshold with a much stronger sense of where I am, and where I’m headed….

All that starts tomorrow. Right now, it’s time for a ROW80 Update!

I include only those goals I interacted with during this session.

Writing:

Plotting:

  • The IDIC Romance: Reread existing stories at fanfiction.net; create rough sketches for 30 new September stories/chapters/scenes. Additional goal: Read unpublished portions of Love and Loss”, “A Backdrop of Stars”, and all of “Mutually Acceptable Emotional Language”. Adapted goal: Sketch stories for IDIC/Hamilton September stories. Topic sentences written for 31/31 stories. Sketch paragraphs; 8/31 stories complete.

Revision:

  • Kifo Island Chronicles: Rough revise and submit a scene from Sea Changes (Kifo Island Chronicles #1) to crit group weekly. Playback of Scene 5/24 complete. Hard copy notations: page 22/22 complete.

Social Media:

  • Blog/Website Transition: Adapt and keep to regular posting schedule. Answer comments, and return visits at least twice weekly. Share all new posts to website; learn how to use galleries. Add relevant content to pages. Aim for soft reveal at end of September. Comments; 1/2 complete; none at website as yet. Two posts in progress; more pending…stay tuned!
  • ROW80: Keep updates and sponsor duties up-to-date. Update done; visited everyone.
  • Develop a rough, rational rhythm for visiting blogs and hop participants. Doing better with getting there within a few days. Calling this a win.
  • Maintain email Inbox below 123 messages. Under 40.

Hometending:

  • Homeschool Administration: Complete all overdue and pending paperwork, testing, etc, and submit overdue materials. Draft, revise, and submit 2016-2017 IHIPs by August 5. Scanned two relevant documents; saved to files.

Lifetending:

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Canoodling; birthday and event planning.

  • Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. Plans in the works for a busy week: homeschool Minecraft club; General Schuyler House (#itswritingresearch, Hamilton fun, and history in one!); a Spockumentary (actually next week) and tai chi/swimming for me; and a birthday dinner for my soon-to-be-15!

  • NNWM local group: Interact regularly, in person and online; participate actively in critique group, reviewing, and beta reading. Nothing new in crit group; write-in on Sunday.

  • Complete Amazon reviews of Starfane; Dragon Time; “The Swineherdess”; and Duchess and the Damned. Starfane: It’s taken a little time, but this review is coming together, and should be posted by month’s end. Hopefully, subsequent reviews will go more quickly, as I get familiar with the template and procedure I’m exploring.

Selftending:

  • Write in Abundance and #onegoodcup journals, and meditate for at least five minutes five times each week. Journals: 1/5; Meditation: 1/5.

  • Get a cumulative total of at least 45 minutes moderate physical activity 5 days weekly, 60 minutes thrice weekly, and more strenuous activities for at least an hour five times monthly. 2/5 moderate (45 minutes);0/3 moderate (60 minutes); 1/5 strenuous.

Leaps of Faith:

  • Update my Accomplice’s cover letter and resume. Help him in his online job search. Helped him with a thank you note.

  • New Goal: Submit a second ROW80 inspirational post by August 20, to give Kait a hand. Up this week.

  1. You know how I love to see all that green and blue together… so soothing and inspiring. Even the touches of red are pretty… a sense of something yet to grow and develop.

And… now, I think I need to consider OctPoMo too. Maybe… we’ll see. Today was the first time I’ve written something new beyond a blog post since last Wednesday… all because you inspired me to to join the Story A Day. Thank you

    1. Yeah, I like the red because it’s potential. =D

I love these fall challenges, because they are good warmup for NaNo, and they’re not quite as intense as the spring challenges.

I also usually feel very creatively charged in the fall – always have. It’s no accident that all my babies were born in the summer! =)

  2. As always, you are hacking away at that long list of goals. Good for you!
Looking at what you have coming up, I checked out StoryADay September. Like I need that kind of pressure right now! But maybe instead I should try journaling-a-day. I’ll write those rambling journal entries in streaks on occasion, but maybe if I make a commitment to do it every day for a month, it will get my creative juices flowing, as well as clear my muddy brain. Thanks for the round-about inspiration!

    1. That sounds like an excellent idea, Chris!

I don’t see it as hacking away at the goals. It’s more like joyfully frolicking with them (well, maybe except for the homeschool reporting. I try not to find that tedious, but it just IS. Living our life is joyful and sweet. Being required by law to put it in schoolspeak and tell the state – uh, not so much.)

I love being able to inspire someone else to find their connection with creativity, no matter how roundabout the process! =D

  3. An amazing month! Your combo of planning, tenacity, and energy are inspirational. Thank you for sharing all your goals, from writing to revision to planning for the coming months. You show me the way. Now if I could only finish the outlining on my current revision project . . . before the round ends! Somehow I know you will make great progress on all your goals.

    1. Strangely, I feel like it’s been a fairly low-energy summer for me – menopause and extreme heat aren’t the best bedfellows!

It shows in my hometending and selftending goals; I wasn’t as active as I wanted to be. The weather has been cooler just lately, so I’m getting some things done while it lasts.

Revision is still slow going, feeling my way through stuff for me. It is getting better; but it takes far longer than it seems like it should, and I’ve set the epic fantasy aside for now, because I really feel that I need to learn a good deal more before I tackle that series.

I’m glad something here has helped you find a better way, too. =)

That’s what life is – the ongoing search for a better way!

Whether I make great progress, or somewhere short of there, I will be further along at the end of the month, and I plan to enjoy the journey. I hope that you will, too! =)

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
