Purposely Changing Lanes: August 2016 Goals

New month, new goals, new focus.

No commentary today – this is long enough already. Beginning Sunday, I’ll only include goals  I’ve engaged with, but, for today – my comprehensive August goals.

And tonight – Shakespeare!

Writing:

Plotting:

  • The IDIC Romance: Reread existing stories at fanfiction.net; create rough sketches for 30 new September stories/chapters/scenes. The objective here is to add to what I’ve already created, because I love sharing these stories!

  • Kifo Island Chonicles: Plan and plot Tsunamis, using The Writer’s Coloring Book.  I’ve done the basic character mapping, but there’s still a way to go before I have developed Master Scene Profiles for all 24 scenes in the first draft. I set this aside last month when things got crazy.

  • Monday Morning Coffee Sequel”: Reread “MMC”, Plan this short story/novella, using The Writer’s Coloring Book. Complete basic character mapping and associated story planning through story world mandalas for both major characters. I have only vague ideas of what I want to do; I need more to go on. And this is a chance to use TWCB on a shorter project, too.

  • Dark and Bitter”: Check guidelines; Plan this short story/novella, using The Writer’s Coloring Book and raw source material from my pre-existing nascent story, “The Venom Club.”Complete basic character mapping and associated story planning through story world mandalas for both major characters. Same status as “MMCS” above.

Revision:

  • Kifo Island Chronicles: Rough revise and submit a scene from Sea Changes (Kifo Island Chronicles #1) to crit group weekly. (I need to submit 22 scenes, total, which carried me exactly to the end of the year, although I don’t expect my crit partners to get to them all that quickly! Hard copy notations complete through Scene 3/ page 40. I’ll be working on this one after I finish my three owed crit pieces, in tandem with my beta reading.

Peach Liqueur Love”: Complete Steps 2 and 3 of Sarah Selecky’s Deep Revision process.

  • The IDIC Romance: ReviseFirst Contact, With Jazz”, using The Writer’s Coloring Book and submit to patiently waiting betas. LibreOffice’s recent update will make this easier, with new merging and tracking features. Excited to get to work! =D

Social Media:

  • Blog/Website Transition: Adapt and keep to regular posting schedule. Answer comments, and return visits at least twice weekly. Share all new posts to website; learn how to use galleries. Add relevant content to pages. Aim for soft reveal at end of September. Comments; 1/2.
  • ROW80: Keep sponsor duties up-to-date. Posted update, made sponsor visits; added a few to offset my recent absence.
  • Develop a rough, rational rhythm for visiting blogs and hop participants. I have good intentions, but I fail to follow through more often than I like. Time to work out a Better Plan.
  • Maintain email Inbox below 123 messages. 0!!!– after a week or two in the weeds, it feels good to see clear space!

Hometending:

  • Homeschool Administration: Complete all overdue and pending paperwork, testing, etc, and submit overdue materials. Draft, revise, and submit 2016-2017 IHIPs by August 5. Made plans with Pokemon-hunting boy for a committed time frame for pre-testing review – our goal is to be done with testing by the tenth. Drafted Annalise’s IHIP; 10/10 sections completed. This one was faster than Jeremiah’s may be, since I used the template from his seventh-grade IHIP, tailored to her needs. Began gathering guideline resources for Jeremiah’s IHIP (World Book typical course of study).

  • Yard Beautification: Maintain in an increasingly presentable manner; declutter outgrown kid-things and random life debris. This is weather-dependent, and the weather hasn’t been cooperating. First very hot, then very wet. Aim for three times a week. 2/3 very minimally.
  • Move everything out of Dropbox; cancel subscription. There was nothing in my online files; I was paying ten dollars a month for a service I never use! All gone now!

Lifetending:

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Chatting; iPhone stuff; television.

  • Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. Write-in attended; planning for Romeo and Juliet.

  • NNWM local group: Interact regularly, in person and online; participate actively in critique group, reviewing, and beta reading. Owed critique 1/3 completed. 2/3 in progress; page 14/17. Accepted ms to read and review.

  • Stained by Ashes: finish beta reading; 3 chapters per week until done. (Currently: 16/27 chapters complete.)

Selftending:

  • Smart Change: Make list of first steps. This means reviewing the first few chapters, gathering needed materials, and doing relevant exercises. May be a Pacemaker goal.
  • Write in Abundance and #onegoodcup journals, and meditate for at least five minutes five times each week. Journals: 3/5.

  • Get a cumulative total of at least 45 minutes moderate physical activity 5 days weekly, 60 minutes thrice weekly, and more strenuous activities for at least an hour five times monthly. 2/5 moderate (45 minutes).

Leaps of Faith:

  • The IDIC Romance: Finish revisions for “Love and Loss” chapters 1-20 at ff.net. Revise new sections of “A Backdrop of Stars”, Chapters 4-8, and post. LAL: Scene 4/20 in progress. ABOS: Rough Drafts of Chapters Four and Five located and reread.

  • A Splash of Red”: compile notes and do pre-self-publication revision pass.  Gather materials and play with cover art ideas. I want to get this published before the end of the year; time to give it higher priority.

  • Poetry Chapbooks: Do rough setup for Trek poetry chapbook. This is experimental noodling for something I want to complete in 2017. Found the Poetry folder, and one of the poems running feral in another directory; rehomed both.

  • Complete resets/reorganizations in study and family room. Both are well underway; hot summer days make these good projects for this round.

  1. Dark and Bitter is officially one of my favorite titles ever. Because I immediately thought of my favorite chocolate. 😛 What’s the premise?

I have trouble keeping up with blog visits, too. :-/ I’d love to hear about the rhythm you’re developing. I like hearing how others get things done.

WOOHOO!!!! Congratulations on clearing out that email! That has got to have a nice, open feeling to it.

Looks like you’re upping your physical fitness goal. How exciting! I love when I can get a good exercise rhthym going and feel it ibncreasing my endurance and strength.

    1. I wish I could take credit for Dark and Bitter, but I can’t. It’s the theme for an anthology being published by some local friends’ spankin’ new publishing company. I have a premise, and ideas floating around in my head, but this one’s Seekrit, so I’m bot giving anything away yet – nope, not even a peep! =D

      ***cue Evil Writer laugh!***

I’ll talk more about the rhythm in a week or two, if it works….

The email was clear, then not, then really not, and now more clear than not. It’s like the weather!

I’m upping the goals a bit. Now, to do the things that get me there….oh, wait. Olympics….

    1. I’m not sure I’d call it powering, but I do love the feeling of having an intention and being able to carry it through.

Thanks, Cate. I hope all is well with you.

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
