Proving on New Ground: ROW80 2016 Round Two Goals End of April Update

Round Two has been a revelation, and an eye-opener. It ended with a great deal of progress; just not in the areas I thought I was going to be focused on.

I learned a lot about my writing and myself. I took a chance, and ran with it, and although that wreaks a certain amount of havoc on my scheduled plans, I can live with that, because what I gained was more than worth the lovely chaos and the re-jiggering that will come from it. After all, this is the mission statement I set at the beginning:

This round is my proving ground, where I will test my mettle and my limits, where I hope to learn some new skills, and gain proficiency and confidence that will bring my closer to that next level – completed works ready for self-publication.

How about you?

Ever thought you were pursuing one goal, before life tugged you in another direction?

What did you do?

Note: This update covers the beginning of Round Two – April 30, 2016. All progress after that date will be included in future updates.

  • Story A Day May (#StaD):Write 31 new Kifo Island stories, using challenge prompts. Use this challenge for exploration of the June and July novel drafts. Early stage planning begun.

  • IDIC Romance A-Z stories: Watch or read transcripts where I’m not sure of events, sequences, or relevant details, prior to scheduling posts. This is complete.

  • Kifo Island Chronicles: Choose characters and storylines for two new novels, reread all relevant materials, and plot both. To the extent possible, do plot sketches for #StaD stories. Early planning in progress for May stories.

  • Complete “Peach Liqueur Love” Deep Revision Exercises;  submit to critique group. Time to finish this; contest deadline is at the end of the month.

  • The IDIC Romance: First Contact, With Jazz”: Complete revision plan for 16 scenes; offer to betas. Complete revisions to “Mission Accomplished” and “Scavenger Hunt”: Polish all, and submit to a fan fiction site.

Blogging/Social Media:

  • Revise, post, and initiate new blogging schedule; keep all posts current. Post-April project.

  • ROW80: Keep visits and updates current; draft, revise, and submit Round Two Sponsor Post before April 9. I fell a bit behind with visits for a week; otherwise good. Sponsor post done.

  • Update my blog layout and pages. Again, post-April.

  • Maintain email at under 333 messages. For the first April ever, yes! Being a minion helped here; so did the fan fiction, both of which had me interacting regularly with my email.

  • Homeschool Administration: Complete all pending paperwork. Draft IHIPs and attend to district’s Peer Review issue; create 2015-2016 Flickr portfolios for both kids, and add all current year items to them. Communications with school district frustrating but ongoing. IHIPs done other than final revisions. Gathered resources for future scanning.

  • Continue decluttering/beautification projects; in home and/or yard, five days weekly. Continue making improvements to our home and our quality of life. This has been a success.

  • Go through all online subscriptions; cancel those we no longer need; at least one each week until done. One subscription canceled; not moving quickly on this one.

  • Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. New Jersey and NYC museum; sleepover; swimming; shopping; write-ins; parties; local events. More in planning phases.

  • NNWM local group: Attend write-ins regularly, and check in on the Facebook group as inspired. Read and critique both projects I’ve been hanging onto; submit and critique weekly for our small crit group. Getting back into critiquing.
  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week.

  • Complete 6 book reviews carried over from last year, on Amazon and/or Goodreads. This was supposed to happen last round. Time to pick up the ball.

  • Write in Abundance, Intentions, and #onegoodcup journals seven times each week. Meditate ten times weekly. Explore one new meditative practice each month. Journaling dropped a day or two. Practicing breathwalking meditation.

  • T’ai chi practice: One class and one at-home practice each week. Learn 24 form well enough not to be lost on World Tai Chi Day. Participate in our local event. Didn’t happen.

  • Swim biweekly, at least 500 meters at the Y pool. Once.

  • Go for walks at least thrice weekly. I’ve been going for short walks every day the weather is pleasant.

  • Get a cumulative total of at least 45 minutes moderate physical activity 5 days weekly, Focus on sprints of activity daily (hometending, dancing, tai chi, walking, whatever), and more strenuous activities I enjoy, like swimming and hiking, building to weekly by round’s end. Write twice-monthly health-centered blog posts. Not sure I’m at the 45 minute mark, but I am active some part of nearly every day.

Leaps of Faith:

  • Submit “Peach Liqueur Love” to an erotic fiction contest. I seem to have missed the deadline; will re-evaluate when I have a revised draft.

  • Poetry Chapbooks: Organize all poems into rough categories for future development.

The Writing Challenge That Knows You Have a Life!

I am myself. I own my life, and live with three other people who own theirs. My intention is to do only those things that bring me joy, and to give myself wholly to those things I do. Writing has been my passion throughout my life, and this will become the home for my writing life...because it brings me great joy!
