Presently Wandering: March 6, 2016

Sometimes, life doesn’t go neatly and tidily according to plan…

That’s how it’s been here. Friday was shopping and dinner with my daughter, which took a few hours from writerly pursuits. Yesterday was my niece’s tenth birthday party (which necessitated the shopping trip). The plan was to stay a few hours, then come home.

Yup, that was the plan – until she was invited to stay the night. That led to several additional hours – an hour of driving her home to get her things, then back again, forty-five minutes at home so she could shower and pack. Then there was an hour more of visiting, before the half hour drive alone. That was all pretty exhausting, so I went to bed early.

I had a couple of hours to work on goals when I got up this morning, then it was time to come pick up my girl, and bring her home before heading out for my regular Sunday night write-in.

So I’m typing this at my brother’s house, while the sleepover wraps up…and, naturally, my progress reflects both expected and unexpected activities. Hopefully, I can catch up in the next several days.

  • The IDIC Romance: Complete plot/pinch points for 26 stories. Once I get through Week Two plotting (H), draft Theme Reveal and Post Template. 9/26 complete. (I). For March: Complete these goals; revise all 26 stories; draft Week One and Two expansion stories; post to fan fiction site. Set Up Week One and Two posts; polish and schedule Week One.

  • April CampNaNo: Create a planning schedule; complete all planning and plotting for Shifting Tides by the end of the month. Rough scheduling complete; will tweak over the next day or two. Completed Main Character Worksheets for 3/3; paper dolls/collage 2/3 (Wilma; Linwood).

  • For March: Sort all existing poetry into broad categories for future projects.

  • The IDIC Romance: Reread “Slow Jazz Awakening” hard copy and notate; adapt revision plan as needed; write revised draft – 16 short scenes. Submit to crit group; assess and apply suggestions as indicated; read revised version aloud. Tweak as needed; and offer to at least three betas. Draft 2.5 rewrite complete; 16/16 scenes. Submitted to crit group. Cursory review of critiques thus far.

Blogging/Social Media:

  • Revise, post, and initiate new blogging schedule; keep all posts current. Hand drafted rough schedule page; not a great posting session, due to life.

  • Answer blog comments and make visits, at least thrice weekly. I may not get to them all; but I will get to some. 4/3.

  • ROW80: Keep visits and updates current; draft, revise, and submit Round Two Sponsor Post. I have an idea, and emailed Kait to volunteer.

  • Change one thing weekly in my blog layout. Working on my schedule.

  • Clear out Inbox and Archive twice weekly; Weed through Transactions in Progress, keeping only currently useful items. Inbox nearly clear.

  • Homeschool Administration: Complete all pending paperwork. Draft IHIPs and attend to district’s Peer Review issue;create 2015-2016 Flickr portfolios for both kids, and begin adding to them.
  • Continue decluttering/beautification projects; in home and/or yard, five days weekly. Continue making improvements to our home and our quality of life. General maintenance; organization; decluttering; deep cleaning. 6/5.
  • Go through all online subscriptions; cancel those we no longer need; at least one each week.

  • Continue planning/ attending outings (personal and family) as desired. Birthday party/sleepover for Annalise Saturday/Sunday ; shopping Friday.

  • NNWM local group: Attend write-ins regularly, and check in on the Facebook group as inspired. Read and critique both projects I’ve been hanging onto; submit and critique weekly for our small crit group.
  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Steven Universe; photo and shipping label printing, conversations.
  • Complete 6 pending book reviews.

  • Write in Abundance, Intentions, and #onegoodcup journals seven times each week. Meditate seven times weekly, including one eating meditation. Explore one new meditative practice. Journaling 7/7; meditation: 7/7.

  • Tai chi practice: One class and one at-home practice each week.

  • For March: Swim twice, at least 500 meters (10 complete laps at Y pool).

  • Focus on sprints of activity daily (hometending, dancing, tai chi, walking, whatever), and more strenuous activities I enjoy, like swimming and hiking twice monthly. Write twice-monthly health-centered blog posts.

Leaps of Faith:

  • Fan fiction stuff: Polish “Mission: Accomplished”, and “Scavenger Hunt”, and offer at Triaxian Silk and/or Find a beta reader or two for “Mission” at one or both sites prior to submitting. Completed a short beta at TriS to break the ice; chose one candidate at “Mission”: Deep revision 1/3 in progress.

  • Use The Writer’s Coloring Book by Rachel Funk Heller to plan and plot Shitting Tides. Rough schedule created; Character Sketches done; paper doll 3/3 in progress.

  • New Goal: Begin beta reading of Stained Ashes; aim for 1 chapter/week this month. I’ve contacted the author to OK her sending me this story.

  • New Goal: Explore Aeon Timeline, using elements from The IDIC Romance. I wrote several scene headings, which I will explore as next chapters in “First Contact, With Jazz” (unless they evolve into their own stories, or a sequel story).

I am myself. I own my life, and live with three other people who own theirs. My intention is to do only those things that bring me joy, and to give myself wholly to those things I do. Writing has been my passion throughout my life, and this will become the home for my writing life...because it brings me great joy!

    1. Despite a headache, it’s a good week so far, with lots of progress. Nothing really off the list, as yet, but lots underway.

I’m rather fond of my Leaps of Faith, too – and the young leaper who illustrates them so aptly, too! =)

  1. I totally have the same issues sometimes. Life happens and I try to be flexible. Although I don’t always succeed. 😉 Very nice work on your goals!

    1. I don’t always succeed, either. Next up – quick Dr. appointment for Lise’s last booster for a while, and possibly another birthday party this weekend (bowling, this time, and further from home).

So I’m trying to stack the deck a bit, in the surrounding times.

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
