My #oneword for 2016: #JusJoJan Day Five

Welcome to Day Five of Just Jot it January, where, for a month – well, we jot. Whatever. However. Wherever. Whyever. It’s graciously hosted by Linda G.Hill.

Today’s prompt, “2016”, comes to us from Fiona at Fiona’s Favorites, who’d love a visit! Pop on over and say hi, if you’re so inclined.

For the last few Januarys, I’ve chosen one word to define what I’d most like to place my focus on through the year. Last year, for instance, was my Year of Exploration.

And 2016?

Well, it’s my Year of Presence.

What does that mean? Well, it means that I want to become more mindful and aware of the things I choose to give my time, energy, and attention to. It’s not a new pursuit; I’ve been learning mindfulness for several years now, getting gradually deeper into learning myself, and how I fit within the greater whole.

This year, though, I will begin to use presence and mindfulness to shape my intentions – to embrace that which brings beauty and joy to my life, and those of my beloveds, and, from there, to the wider world…like each of you who reads this.

Because I’m human, I sometimes get a little thrown away in things that don’t serve the good in my life. I feel bitter, or angry, or resistant to making a change or taking a step that will make for a better life.

I’m going to be looking at those, paying attention, and learning ways to turn those times into something else – something more in keeping with my goals and ideals. I’m going to reshape some things, let others go, and give myself over to those things which feed life and delight…

While I’m doing all this paying attention to where I’m going, I’m also going to be focusing on the actual present…the moment that I’m in. It can be easy, when attempting to attend goals, to forget about the fact that NOW, this instant, this breath, is all we ever truly have, and that it’s all these NOWs, adding up, that make a life. If I throw away all my NOWS seeking after the future, the richness of life’s texture will be muted.

So that’s it – my #oneword, and for this blogpost, at least for the present…but there will be more – in the form of essay posts, images, and updates…

Author:

I am myself. I own my life, and live with three other people who own theirs. My intention is to do only those things that bring me joy, and to give myself wholly to those things I do. Writing has been my passion throughout my life, and this will become the home for my writing life...because it brings me great joy!
