Geekily Grateful: December 13, 2015

Ever found something you’ve been looking for, and felt this wonderful feeling of getting just what you wanted? Ever known that it would be hard to explain to anyone else just why you’re so excited about it? Known that your delight marks you, well and truly, as a geek?

Two days ago, while looking for something else, I found this:

<iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/vO3Z2yeElvk&#8221; frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen></iframe>

Maybe it would help if I explained that, other than T’Pol’s “Just because they smile and eat chicken doesn’t mean they’ve learned to master their emotions,” this is about my favorite humorous Enterprise quote. This moment happens early in Season One, during the episode “Breaking the Ice”, which defines not only Trip’s character, but which also signifies a change in Trip and T’Pol’s relationship that will have far-reaching implications for them both.

I’m so happy and grateful to have found this, and I’ll wear the geek tag with pride – because I’ve got the poop question, and that just plain makes me grin!

And now, the update!

  • My Round 4 Goals (updating soon -really!).

  • My 2015 Goals (updating soon – really!).

Color-coding key:

  • Goal attained = blue with overstrike.

  • Goal in progress = green.

  • Goal-in-waiting = red.

  • Goal set aside = red with overstrike.

Writing:

Plotting:

Revisions:

  • The IDIC Romance: Using existing notes (once complete); create a revision plan for “Slow Jazz Awakening” (the lynchpin of my Trip/T’Pol shipping fan fiction); write revised draft; 16 short scenes. (Download all relevant OneDrive files to assess my current status for this project.) Pre-planning revision notes for 6/16 scenes. Scene 7 in progress.

  • Peach Liqueur Love”: Complete steps 2 and 3 of Sarah Selecky’s Deep Revision process; rewrite in preparation for steps 4 and 5.

Blogging/Social Media:

  • Publish all regular features posts; scheduling ahead where possible. Revise and initiate new blogging schedule; complete special December treat. I missed the linky for #8sunday, so will sit out this week. All else posted as scheduled.

  • Catch up all blog comments and visits. I made more comment replies, and and maintaining easier, when I use my new Fire for this, as it’s very streamlined and portable. I’ve had two sessions of returning commenter visits, as well.

  • ROW80: Keep visits and updates current.

  • Maintain at under 99 messages; clear Archives folder. Cleared a few items from the archives.

Hometending:

  • Homeschool Administration: Complete all pending paperwork. Draft IHIPs and attend to district’s Peer Review issue;create 2015-2016 Flickr portfolios for both kids, and begin adding to them. Took many pictures for Annalise’s’s portfolio; Annalise’s IHIP and report drafts complete, excepting attendance.
  • Get computer repaired! Baby step: looked into Best Buy’s services.
  • Continue decluttering/beautification projects; in home and/or yard, five days weekly. Continue making improvements to our home and our quality of life. 6/5; moderate.
  • Reset my study bulletin board with Pending/Drafting/ Simmering/Revision categories. Ideas abound; will begin enacting once my project table is clear (the board hangs over this). Moving forward on the table and related areas; nearly ready to begin.

Lifetending:

  • Continue planning/ attending outings and events as desired. Plans in the works for get-togethers with local friends, and a trip to the state museum. We attended a Christmas party at an area business that puts up a wonderful free light display each year.

  • NNWM local group: Attend write-ins regularly, and check in on the Facebook and Twitter groups as inspired. Read and critique both projects I’ve been hanging onto. No write-in this week; December is a more casual month, with many people occupied with various holiday plans, and just post-NaNo. After a busy week, I opted to stay home.
  • Complete the two beta reads I’ve had waaay too long. Beta #2 complete through Chapter Four (p15/121).

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Couples’ and TV time; cuddles, conversation, and an outing with the kids.
  • Complete 7 pending book reviews.

Selftending:

  • Write in Abundance,Intentions, and #onegoodcup journals seven times each week. Meditate seven times weekly, including one eating meditation. Explore one new meditative practice. 6/7 for journaling; 6/7 meditation. Missed Saturday.

  • T’ai chi practice: at home three times; class once or twice a week. Continue reading The Tai Chi Directory.

  • Make time for physical activity five days a week; Evaluate how I’m approaching them, in preparation for 2016. 5/5. A nascent idea for evaluation is gestating here…

Leaps of Faith:

  • Poetry Chapbooks: Categorize poems roughly for 2016 development.

  • Website/Business blog: Come to a decision for 2016 before WP renewal time; research self-hosting. I think I’ve decided; letting the decision settle a bit before committing.

  • Fan fiction stuff: Polish “Mission: Accomplished”, and “Scavenger Hunt”, and offer on Ad Astra. The last snippet of “Mission” will appear on Sunday, after which I will begin commenting and interacting on the site while I polish these little fluffy bits of slightly more than slightly naughty fun!

  • Self-publishing: Finish reading The Indie Author Power Pack. 100%. (3/3).

  1. I like your system too — colorful, progress at a glance, and yet every time I visit, I find something to inspire me. This time, I was so pleased to see you making progress by setting a specific goal for that poetry chapbook project. Celebrate that forward movement. You are doing great!

    1. The chapbook project might not move much further than that, but, along with the return of my laptop to my life, I now have access to all of my poems for the last three years or so, so the categorizing will be more complete, when I get to it, than I’d hoped.

I’ve thought of beginning my chapbook explorations with my Star Trek fan poetry, since I can feel free to experiment and learn maybe more expansively with a project I know I will only offer free of charge.

What’s slowing me down the most at the moment is that I really don’t know how to revise my poetry, and some of it definitely needs a bit of work..

One small step at a time….

      Because they do add up!

As for those colors – they make me happy, just like it always makes me happy when you stop by, Beth…even if it takes me a few days to get back to you.

    1. It’s just a matter of learning. The blend (because it’s not a balance for me) is a matter of trial and error and deepening understanding. While I’m better at it today than I was a couple of years ago, I expect I’ll be that much better a couple years further down the road…

One thing: I don’t even try to do All The Things. Instead, I focus on doing things I love, and learning to love the things I have to do. If it doesn’t feed my soul or benefit my loved ones, I usually won’t give my time or focus to it.

I believe very deeply in joy. =)

  2. I totally agree with Deborah. I am in awe if your energy and system too. But I suspect I am about to discover my system and get rudcof all the clutter. My personal awakening in form of total chaos. For now I have decided though to trust in my instincts and that I have to listen to myself first of all. Once I’ve mastered that and struck a balance between me and the world around me my energy will get back into balance too. I believe unawares you have become my mentor 🙂

    1. “For now I have decided though to trust in my instincts and that I have to listen to myself first of all.”

I think that’s the most important factor – at least, it was for me. I used to spend a huge amount of my time getting lost in the ‘shoulds’ of life..now, I only keep those things that feed my specific goals (one reason I have so many of them, is so that I truly know what matters to me, and I can plan accordingly).

Of course, not everyone has the degree of freedom I do in orchestrating their life, so it’s best to focus on you and your own life .

I have a feeling you’re about to hit a breakthrugh, and I’m honored if what I share helps you in any way. That’s a pretty wonderful bonus to setting goals and holding myself accountable publicly. =D

  3. How are you liking Ta’i Chi? I am so in awe of your system. I guess I am in awe of anything that resembles energy. I’ll continue my search, but it’s nice to find a lot of it here. 🙂

    1. I love Tai chi – unfortunately, the last few months, I’ve had a lot of trouble with getting to class, reading, or practicing consistently. Lots of other things going on, but I intend to to renew my commitment to regular practice in the new year.

I don’t have a system, so much as an understanding of how my life works. For instance, as I type this, I know that soon I’m going to be going to help my daughter make a video, and wash some dishes, and start laundry, and there will be other things –

Mostly, I’ve just learned to accept that much of my life happens spontaneously, so, if I want to achieve my goals, I need to plan accordingly.

I think, with everything you have going on in your life, that you have more energy being expended than you might realize.

I’m happy if my updates can give you some pleasure, too! =)

      1. I think you’re probably right. In fact, I know you are. And it’s taking a toll, as evidenced by the way the last few days have been. But I’m working on it. 🙂

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
