Gear-Shifting Gratitude : November 22, 2015

Ever have a whirlwind week where it seems that, every time you think you know just what’s going on, something happens, and you’re seemingly forever trying to keep up with?

  • On Monday, we got word that our CPS case was being closed as unfounded.

  • On Tuesday, I learned that my Accomplice’s work schedule would be different for the next two weeks.

  • On Wednesday, I finished drafting Sea Changes, and learned that my short story, “Monday Morning Coffee” had been accepted by the World Unknown Review anthology. It’s my second year with this publication, and I’m quite pleased with myself, and honored to be included again.

  • On Thursday, the kids’ new mattresses were delivered, and I started rereading my fantasy draft-in-progress, Foul Deeds Will Rise.I’ll be completing the draft over the next weeks.

  • On Friday, I validated my NaNoWriMo win at 66,633 words.

  • Saturday, I was inundated by epiphanies in the form of blog post ideas, plot tribbles, and insights…these lasted through dreams, and are still lingering and popping like those last kernels of popcorn…

And I’m grateful for every chaotic bit of it!

Color-coding key:

  • Goal attained = blue with overstrike.

  • Goal in progress = green.

  • Goal-in-waiting = red.

  • Goal set aside = red with overstrike.

Writing:

  • NaNoWriMo: Complete draft of Sea Changes (Kifo Island Chronicles #3). . This near-future fantasy will be about 60,000 words, total. Official end of 11/19 (and NaNo, for me) word count: 66,833, which is comparable to my other two KIC drafts. Backed up novel using redundant methods.

Plotting:

  • The IDIC Romance: Choose one freewriting for each letter to develop into an A-Z post; make episode list for rewatching, and take notes as needed. Hey, #itswritingresearch! 1/26 stories chosen. 24/26 letters completed;through X writings completed. This is a focus now that NaNo is over, and I’m rereading FDWR.

  1. Star Trek Chronology Project:Watch first 10 chronological episodes from Season One of Star Trek (TOS). “Charlie X” (and found an episode out of order in the chronology). 8/10 complete.

Blogging/Social Media:

  • Publish all regular features posts; scheduling ahead where possible. Still not doing Second Serving Sunday, Coffee and Conversation, or Mindful Monday; but began a post with more ideas simmering…this week. #8sunday scheduled on Thursday.

  • Catch up all blog comments and visits. I’m making good progress, now that Sea Changes is a complete draft.

  • ROW80: Keep visits and updates current. I finally made the rounds for Sunday’s update on Friday. All caught up now.

  • Maintain email inbox below 333 messages. Got total to 0 messages. First time since before NaNo! =D

Hometending:

  • Homeschool Administration: Complete all pending paperwork. Draft IHIPs and attend to district’s Peer Review issue.
  • Get computer repaired!
  • Continue decluttering/beautification projects; in home and/or yard, five days weekly. Continue making improvements to our home and our quality of life. 6/5 family room; living room; study; yardtending.

Lifetending:

  • Continue planning/ attending outings and events as desired. Both kids more nocturnal than I currently am, and content to stay home and sleep during the daytime hours.

  • NNWM local group: Attend write-ins regularly, and check in on the Facebook and Twitter groups as inspired. Read and critique both projects I’ve been hanging onto. Doing a bit better overall; hoping to get to one of these critiques in the next couple of weeks.
  • Complete the two beta reads I’ve had waaay too long. Beta #2 complete through Chapter Four (p15/121).

  • My beloveds: One on one time with each, doing something of value to us both, each week. Oh, yes! Walking. Chatting. Couples’ time.
  • Complete 7 pending book reviews.

Selftending:

  • Write in Abundance,Intentions, and #onegoodcup journals seven times each week. Meditate seven times weekly, including one eating meditation. Explore one new meditative practice. 6/7 for journaling and meditation – early activities threw me off on Thursday.

  • T’ai chi practice: at home three times; class once or twice a week. Continue reading The Tai Chi Directory. Planning to begin with one class on Tuesday, now that the family issue is resolved.

  • Make time for physical activity five days a week; use phone app to track three time a week. 5/5; 2/3 with phone.

Leaps of Faith:

  • Poetry Chapbooks: Basic research and discussion ; simmering.

  • Website/Business blog: Brainstorming.

  • Fantasy convention

  • Fan fiction stuff

  • Self-publishing: Dipping my big toe into that something I was considering….stay tuned. Reading Write. Publish. Repeat.

These goals are a part of Kait Nolan’s  ROW80 Writing Challenge the challenge that knows you have a life.

  1. Congratulations on your NaNo win and the short story being accepted! Woo hoo! Sounds like you’re on track with your goals. Rock on. I love the book “Write, Publish, Repeat,” and really got a lot of good ideas from it. Blessings!

    1. I’ve gotten so much out of that book, and I know I’ll be going back to it again and again, highlighting, learning, growing, experimenting…

The second book in the bundle was Let’s Get Digital, and I found that one very informative, as well.

I’m doing better at some goals than others, but that’s mostly because I tend to have very creative and very ‘tending’ times, and then a flow in the middle where pretty much anything goes.

Can’t wait to see the whole anthology! Last year’s had so much good reading!

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
