“Mission Accomplished”: The IDIC Romance for WIPpet Wednesday

Welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a weekly blog hop which encourages writers to move WIPs (works-in-progress) to publication by posting excerpts related to the date. It’s been hosted by our fearless shepherd –  the lovely K.L. Schwengel, maven of bad boys, stock dogs, and flying monkeys! She’s ready to step back a bit, so, while we’re in a state of transition, here we still are… and ready to share!

I’m actually deep into drafting my current NaNoWriMo near-fiction fantasy novel, Sea Changes (Kifo Island Chronicles #3), but that doesn’t mean that Trip and T’Pol have just gone silent.

Quite the contrary, actually. They’ve been tickling at my mind for the last week or so, offering up new little snippets and bits of scenes and plot tribbles…once I finish this novel draft, I’ll be giving them some attention – because we all know I’m at their command, and I wouldn’t want to be charged with insubordination.

But, until then…

Today, I’m sharing the conclusion of my fluffy fun flash fiction story, “Scavenger Hunt”. If you’ve missed previous installments, don’t panic…there’s a complete links list after the snippet. =D

I’m edging closer to posting my first story to an actual fan fiction site, so input is extremely valuable to me at this point.

Disclaimer: Trip, T’Pol, and Trek – it’s a love thing, not a money thing; I don’t own them, but they won’t let me go! =)

No spoilers in this one. I envision it taking place soon after my previous story, “Mission Accomplished”. In canon terms, that would be between S4E17: “Bound, and S4E20: “Demons”. Enterprise is en route home to Earth, with no urgent business, and Captain Archer decides that he’ll put his second and third in command through some ‘team-building exercises’. He’s got no idea (or, at least, he’s trying to convince himself that he has no idea), that they’ve got other, more pleasurable ways of connecting and working together, and that these little side missions are getting in the way…

Never fear, though, because TnT have ways of tending to the business at hand without sacrificing all the pleasures of a relationship that’s finally going well…

WIPpet Sorta- Math:

  • Today is November 11, 2015. Yup. 11/11. =D
  • One sentence for each day in the date.

Context: Captain Archer questioned whether Trip and T’Pol took his scavenger hunt assignment seriously. After some inter-species banter regarding the proper way to talk about cats and dogs, Jon starts to get the idea he’s being bamboozled by Trip’s explanation of how exhausting it was like scavenger hunting exhaustively with a Vulcan. He yawned and stretched for effect…and that brings us here…

“Mission Accomplished”

I agree, Commander.” T’Pol echoed the yawn – something Jon had never seen her do before.

“Well, that’s an historic occasion. Why don’t you both take the next two days off, since I managed to spoil your weekend?”

“You planning any more of these ‘team-building exercises’?”

No.” Jon sighed. “I’m afraid of what you two will come up with, if I try.” He gave them an aw-shucks shrug and grin worthy of his Chief Engineer, and added, “Dismissed. – get lost, you two.”

Just as the door closed, he thought he heard T’Pol’s soft voice say, “Mission Accomplished”, and Trip’s answering chuckle.

Jon thought of the way they’d obviously worked together to get out of his team-building exercises – not what he’d pictured, when he had the idea, but damned if he hadn’t accomplished his mission, too.

Will Jon figure out the nature of his bamboozlement?

Is that even a word!?

Will Trip and T’Pol figure out that they were bamboozled, too?

Will they even care?

Whatever will they do with two more days off? ;D

Well, if you want the answers to these questions, you’ll just have to wait for me to write a sequel to this sequel! (But don’t hold your breath; I don’t have any immediate plans for one).

Here are the previous “Scavenger Hunt” WIPpets:

I’m also in the process of serializing the prequel to this story, “Mission Accomplished”, over at #8sunday. You can read the current snippet, “It’s Dangerous ”, now, and the next segment goes live just after midnight on Sunday (I know, I know. I said that last week, but I got swept away in NaNo’s #DoubleUpDay, and new words were flowing…and I just didn’t get to it before the linky list closed. I’ll be adding it to this week’s list tonight or tomorrow, though, so it WILL be there this week).

Looking for less exhausting WIPpet Snippets? You can find those, or add your own date-related excerpt, by following the little blue froggy from WIPpet to WIPpet to WIPpet! It’s a WIPpet buffet!

Drunk at Dinner” – an outtake version of a classic T’Pol bamboozlement. =)

I am myself. I own my life, and live with three other people who own theirs. My intention is to do only those things that bring me joy, and to give myself wholly to those things I do. Writing has been my passion throughout my life, and this will become the home for my writing life...because it brings me great joy!

  1. I love that everyone is being bamboozled here, and they don’t even know it! Also,
“No.” Jon sighed. “I’m afraid of what you two will come up with, if I try.” – made me properly grin.

  2. Well… Jon’s right. They certainly built up some teamwork skills. 😛 Good of him to look at it in that positive light when he could probably come up with a reason to write them up for their slow performance. I am curious, though, how did they fit all their usual team building exercises in between all those other searches? Or did they just kind of combine the two?

    1. They aren’t telling me how they did it. At least not yet. But I’m hearing little whispers that suggest they may be willing to spill the details sooner or later….probably when I’m deep in the middle of something else.

I’m guessing there was some degree of combining, or dividing and conquering, or fast forwarding, or some such adaptation going on there…

Jon’s not so much complaining about how long they took as he is that they were completely out of touch for that two days – didn’t even show up for dinner at the Captain’s table – and then they give him a datapadd full of movie clips. He’s feeling a bit left out, and not for the last time, as you know…

    1. It was cool how it all worked out. This time, even Jon ends up happy – although, if he knew exactly how he was being bamboozled, he might not be quite so eager to send those two off together with time on their hands… 😉

  3. Hahaha! I can’t stop giggling at this. Oh, these folks. Looking forward to seeing if they figure it out.”Mission accomplished.” That line says it all.

    1. If TnT knew that the Captain figured HIS mission had been accomplished (and the might, because Vulcan Hearing), I figure THEY’D figure that was all well and good, because they had no intention to actually shirk the assignment, however frivolous and pointless it seemed to at least the Vulcan half of them…

Now, Jon, on the other hand – he’s got his own repressed and unresolved desires for a certain pointy-eared lady, and, if he knew that her tastes ran solely to a certain blonde Chief Engineer with dimples, or how that Chief Engineer feels about the lady in question, I’m thinking he would be finding things for them to do on opposite ends of the ship (not that that’s even going to come close to stopping T’Pol, but the strength of her desires, and her willingness to act on them, are also things he doesn’t know just yet…).

I’m glad he’s pleased with himself for now, though…and I’m going to let TnT have that two days off without spying on them! =)

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
