Welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a weekly blog hop which encourages writers to move WIPs (works-in-progress) to publication by posting excerpts related to the date. It’s hosted by the lovely K.L. Schwengel, maven of bad boys, stock dogs, and flying monkeys! She’s our fearless shepherd…or something like that, anyway…
Story a Day September is over, and I have lots of Trip and T’Pol shipping stories to share…and that’s just what I’m going to do, for the next several weeks.
I’m sharing my flash fiction story, “Scavenger Hunt” in its entirety. Since it hasn’t appeared anywhere else, and only the first few paragraphs have previously been shared here, this a WIPpet Wednesday exclusive.
I’m eager for comments, criticisms, and feedback. I’m edging closer and closer to biting the bullet, so to speak, and posting my first story to an actual fan fiction site, so input is extremely valuable to me, at this point.
Disclaimer: Trip, T’Pol, and Trek – it’s a love thing, not a money thing; I don’t own them, but they won’t let me go! =)
No spoilers in this one. I envision it taking place soon after my previous story, “Mission Accomplished”. In canon terms, that would be between S4E17: “Bound”, and S4E20: “Demons”. Enterprise is en route home to Earth, with no urgent business, and Captain Archer decides that he’ll put his second and third in command through some ‘team-building exercises’. He’s got no idea (or, at least, he’s trying to convince himself that he has no idea), that they’ve got other, more pleasurable ways of connecting and working together, and that these little side missions are getting in the way…
Never fear, though, because TnT have ways of tending to the business at hand without sacrificing all the pleasures of a relationship that’s finally going well…
WIPpet Sorta- Math:
- Today is October 21, 2015.
- One sentence for each day in the date.
A bit of context: Jon says it’s not a game. T’Pol says it is. Trip says he doesn’t mind working on his time off, but that T’Pol had lots of questions, so it took a while….and now, here we are.
That was the first thing either of them had said that Jon did believe. He ignored Trip, and focused on the Vulcan woman. “Did you get satisfactory answers?”
“I believe I did. I’m now familiar with the phrases, ‘pot of gold’, ‘twister’, and ‘hair curlers’. I know that Shirley Temple was a child actress some one hundred and twenty five years ago, and that she was known for her curls, her tap dancing, and the song, “On the Good Ship Lollipop.” I learned that Trip had an extremely large canid -”
“A big dog, T’Pol -“
“-An Irish wolfhound, named Bedford, and also a black and white felinoid -“
“She means a cat, Cap’n. Bartie-bee was a cat.” T’Pol seemed to have the ability to make even that damned smirk disappear – definitely not the result Jon had been going for.
T’Pol didn’t seem to care that Trip wasn’t grinning anymore, or that he had been in the first place. She went on in her typically unruffled tones. “I have also been copiously reminded that Commander Tucker is prone to unwarranted interruptions of others’ conversations.”
“Spoilsport.” Trip shook his finger at T’Pol.
T’Pol went on as though Trip hadn’t said a word. “I also learned that the Commander’s sister emulated Shirley Temple during the illogical holiday known as ‘Halloween’.”
“And that took two days?” Jon knew he was being bamboozled, but not how.
Is Jon being bamboozled?
If so, will he figure out how?
Will Trip and T’Pol ever agree on how to describe cats and dogs?
Will they start fighting like cats and dogs?
Is Jon sorry he asked if T’Pol got satisfactory answers?
Will Trip find his lost smile?
Come back next week to learn things!
In case you want to read back, here’s the WIPpets that have posted so far:
I’m in the process of serializing the prequel to this story, “Mission Accomplished”, over at #8sunday. You can read the current snippet, “Something Totally Unrelated”, now, and the next segment goes live just after midnight on Sunday. There’s also a list so you can catch up, if you’re coming in late.
