Candlelight Commingled Kisses for OctPoWriMo Day 2

If you love to write poetry, you love a good poetry challenge, and you are missing April’s NaPoWriMo then you are in the right place. There are now multiple Novel writing months it is past time we added another Poetry month. October is a great time to challenge poets to a poem a day for thirty one days.

This October, I’m also focusing on gratitude, so each of my poems will use the daily prompt, and deal in some way with thankfulness. Come join me on this poetic journey – and feel free to comment, or link your own poems.

For October 2nd, the prompt is imagery, using a favorite scene, muted. My poem’s subject is a first time – between T’Pol of Vulcan and Trip Tucker of Earth.

Why them? Well, I’m grateful for Enterprise, and this relationship that feels so true, and has given me endless material to dream and write about, and delight in…and this moment was beautifully written, acted, and presented.

Need more proof? Here’s the scene that inspired today’s poem.

Candlelight Commingled Kisses

After all the words parried and thrust

Candlelight on their dulled blades

All the words have vanished

Like smoke from the candles

Blended into the air

And the sound of our breath

Here in this womb of a room

Held in deep space

Quiet as breath

And the waiting heartbeats

And then leaning in

The instant of decision

Candlelight in dilated eyes

That hold nothing of doubt

But contain all that matters

In this life

The kiss a potent live thing

Known and alien

Binding and promising

Eyes the color of

Earth’s summer skies

When there are no clouds

Dazed and wide open

Not quite believing

Never so close as this

Closer than the next

Poised and whispered breath

A candle’s flickering uncertainty

Between what has been

And what will be

The leaning in and pulling away

Like the dancing of these small flames

Decision held in hazel eyes

Hands lifting in another dance

Silk robe slipping away

Unveiling proud curves for

Candlelight’s caress

Welcoming sky colored eyes

Wide and dazed

Pulled down the length

Of the revealed form

Then up, up, up

Back to soft

Welcome promise demand

An end to mystery

A beginning to knowing

Lips parted eyes holding

Wanting that erases

All control

All discipline

All logic

Except this

This breath

Warmed by candlelight

Witnessed by chaotic

Space

Standard Disclaimer: I don’t own Trip, T’Pol, or Trek. I also don’t accept money for playing with them. It’s an act of passion, like the suddenness of T’Pol’s kisses. =)

If you’re interested, you can find links to my Star Trek: Enterprise fan fiction here!

Return tomorrow, for my next poetic thanksgiving….and, until then, maybe you could share what you’re grateful for today!

If poetry happens to be on your gratitude list, you can find more imagery-centric poems at the OctPoWriMo Day Two list, or visit the #OctPoWriMo hashtag on Twitter and Instagram.

This video was my alternate selection, so I’m sharing it as well.

    1. It’s more like they chose me (took me over, threatened me with a nerve pinch and a phase pistol…)!

I didn’t see Enterprise new, as I made my first person that year, and that was rather absorbing.

But, from the time I discovered them, they’ve been in control. Or not in control, which can be even more fun….

Happy to be back this year! =)

    1. I really can’t take the credit. I’m more the conduit than the creator on this one. I think they were just waiting for their chance to talk about that first night…

But for certain I love them both. =)

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
