Welcome to WIPpet Wednesday, a weekly blog hop which encourages writers to move WIPs (works-in-progress) to publication by posting excerpts related to the date. It’s hosted by the lovely K.L. Schwengel, maven of bad boys, stock dogs, and flying monkeys! She’s our fearless shepherd…or something like that, anyway…
I’m writing a Story a Day this month, and that intransigent inter-species duo in my head insist on feeding more more bits of their lives.
Since I’ve got a story for each day of the week (why am I picturing days of the week underwear now?!) I’m sharing the first paragraph for each one, from last Thursday today. Read one, read all, pick and choose…
If any of them speak to you, let me know in the comments. You’ll see why, in a bit.
And, as always, the disclaimer. I don’t own these characters or their franchise. Trip and T’Pol just demand that I write what they tell me to. I don’t cheapen that with money; this is all free!
There may or may not be spoilers for all kinds of things here. One of the stories is erotic (it’s labeled), Reader discretion is strongly advised!
WIPpet Sorta- Math:
- Today is September 23, 2015.
- One opening paragraph for each day of the past week. Easy-peasy. =D
A Human Heart: September 16, 2015
- Charles Tucker Jr. stared at his front door, vaguely aware that he was eventually going to have to open it and go inside. Most people these days had automatic slide doors, even more newfangled than those push jobs they’d had on his boy’s spaceship. But he and Kath were simple folks. Trip had teased them plenty, but they’d never wanted a door without a proper knob on it.
“I’m Stuck in Here”: September 17, 2015
Unnatural Offspring: September 18, 2015
- Stenna waited, obscured by her personal shielding, in the place she’d selected only after reviewing months of footage collected from the multitude of tiny cameras she’d placed around the perimeter of the property. It had taken more than three weeks, as the people of this world measured such things, but she knew now that her targets came most frequently to this place, where a small flow of water cut through rock, and there were trees for shade, and the occasional wild thing to investigate.
“Rerouting History”: September 19, 2015
Jean-Luc wondered if all humans watched the Ambassador, looking for signs of their species in his behavior. Had it been that way, when he served on James Kirk’s Enterprise? Did he know he was the subject of such scrutiny, and, if he did, was it of any consequence to him?
Coming: September 20, 2015
(Warning – if you’re guessing naughty things here, you’re right….)
“Oh, God, T’Pol…T’Pol? Baby, we gotta – slow it down. Gotta – hold on a little. Let you -catch up.”
An Inescapable Point: September 21, 2015
You can’t sit here a moment longer. The Xindi are going to destroy the ship, destroy Earth, kill every human they can find.
Back Home Again: September 22, 2015
Kath Tucker stirred the sauce, humming along with “Seminole Wind”, and dipped her wooden spoon to get a whiff and a taste. “Needs a little basil, and some scallions,” she said to herself. It wasn’t so that she could peek out the window again. That would be snooping, and she wasn’t a snoop.
Just Like Trip: September 20, 2015
Elizabeth Tucker never should have taken David’s dare.
So, do you have a favorite among these openings?
Is there one (or more) that doesn’t work for you?
Do any of these make you want to read the next paragraph?
Tell me which you like (one, two, more, all) and, I will post the next paragraph of the story in the comments. If something gets multiple votes, I’ll post multiple paragraphs, and you can comment on those, too, if you want! I’m willing to post as many as you’re eager to read!
I want to know what makes you want to read more, and also if there’s something that turns you off. All of the openings are on the rough side, since I’m writing a story each day, but I really want to know what captures the attention and triggers enough intrigue to lure you to read the rest of the story.
Note to ReGi: I haven’t forgotten you. Life and Sniffles are happening; I should get the rest of your paragraphs up later tonight (well, it might be morning here, but it’ll be night still where you are!).
And, in case you missed them:
I’m serializing one of my stories, “Mission Accomplished”, over at #8sunday. You can read the current snippet, “Wasting Time”, now, and the next segment goes live just after midnight on Sunday. There’s also a list so you can catch up, if you’re coming in late.
Looking for more tasty WIPpet Snippets? You can find those, or add your own date-related excerpt, by following the little blue froggy from WIPpet to WIPpet to WIPpet! It’s a WIPpet buffet!
