Final Reflections? September 23, 2015

Round Three is all about reflection, for me: where I am, who I am, where I’d like to be, and who I’d like to be when I get there.

When you finish a writing project, do you type ‘The End’?

I don’t. If I ever have, it was long ago.

These days, I see endings and beginnings as softer and more nebulous affairs. I’ll revise those projects, probably again and again. Dishes finished today will be replaced by dirty ones within hours – same with laundry.

Round Three is ending, and I didn’t complete everything I set out to do. The End is near, but I’m not finished…and I’m OK with that.

Why?

Because the ending is arbitrary. The round officially ends tomorrow. But when I wake up Friday morning, I have exactly the same choice to move forward on my goals, to live my life with intention, that I have as I type these words early on Wednesday afternoon.

The choice is mine.

It’s also my choice to decide how to view those goals I didn’t finish. Did I fail? Or have I just not yet wholly succeeded? Do I focus on what remains undone, or on the journey made to get to this point?

My choice – and yours. What will we choose?

And, to wrap up the round, here’s a bit of Viny sleepover fun from Annalise and her friend Gabrielle.

Author:

I am myself. I own my life, and live with three other people who own theirs. My intention is to do only those things that bring me joy, and to give myself wholly to those things I do. Writing has been my passion throughout my life, and this will become the home for my writing life...because it brings me great joy!

  1. Well-said. I love having ROW80 because it gives me a set deadline, and since I don’t have a publisher setting deadlines for me, ROW80 helps. I like the challenge. But I don’t feel bad that I didn’t meet all of my goals for this round. The way I see it, there’s always next round.

  2. Well said about goals and choosing to look at the future with a positive and proactive approach. Every day is a fresh start, a blank canvas, and choosing to live deliberately. 🙂

  3. “But when I wake up Friday morning, I have exactly the same choice to move forward on my goals, to live my life with intention, that I have as I type these words early on Wednesday afternoon.”
    Pure genius right there!

And the Vine is adorable–nice voice too!

    1. The Vine voice isn’t Lise’s – although she does have a sweet singing voice of her own, and not insignificant natural talent (I sing, too, so maybe genetic). But this girl was born to perform – I knew it when she was a baby!

As you might guess, I;m not a huge fan of arbitrary time frames. I do love the way ROW80 provides a framework for my goals – but the win/lose paradigm isn’t one I embrace. It tends to get in the way of progress and joy – and I won’t have that! =D

    1. Thanks, Ruth! It’s been -interesting – with the computer issues, but I’m adapting, and moving along. Maybe not as quickly as I’d like, but moving along.

I”m excited for Round 4 – I’m starting to get a firm sense of what I want to focus on, and that always makes it more exciting, as I anticipate delving in….

And, until then, life and writing go on….maybe at a more relaxed and wandering pace….

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
