When Setbacks Strike…: Ready. Set. Write! June 29 – July 6, 2015 (Week 4 Update)

OK, who’s taking all the weeks?!

That’s the only logical explanation for where all the days are going so fast…or at least, that’s what I’m telling myself, anyway. Because here it is, already time to Update Four of Ready. Set. Write!

Short description: Ready. Set. WRITE!, is a summer writing intensive that provides an opportunity to cheer each other on wherever we’re at in our writing. We set goals, write like crazy, and keep one another accountable.

On Mondays, I check in at one of the host blogs, Why not hop in and help me spread some summer sunshine to them, too?

And now, without further fuss and bother, my update!

Sometimes things get a little…Zentangled! Art and photo by Shan Jeniah Burton.

Color-coding key:

  • Goal attained = blue with overstrike.

  • Goal in progress = green.

  • Goal-in-waiting = red.

How I Did On Last Week’s Goals:

Overall, some progress got made, and some didn’t. I had a few setbacks, and some things are just taking longer than I expected them to…that’s life.

The trick, I’ve found, is not to dwell on the places where I fell down or puttered along. Instead, I’m looking at a week of good intentions that sometimes panned out, sometimes didn’t, and sometimes just need more time to get there…life can be like that, sometimes.

Writing:

  • Generations (KIC #2):  Complete the final 3 scenes; set aside to percolate. It’s a draft, and a great big win!

  • Sea Changes (KIC#3):Complete GMCD or R for each scene; Write beginning/middle/ending summaries for each scene; move all relevant materials to Scrivener file. Nothing to report, here, except that it was set aside for Other Things.

  • The IDIC Romance: Compile 2015 Story A Day May stories with existing stories, in chronological order; fix continuity problems in IDIC 2014 stories. See above.
  • Trueborn Weft Series:Foul Deeds Will Rise: Attend NaNo local group’s The Snowflake Method plotting workshop on Tuesday; begin drafting on Wednesday (so plotting needs to be done by then!), Rereading/revising step 6/6 (four-page summary) in progress; scene by scene outline 12 scenes complete. Nope, not drafting just yet, but soon…so a mixed bag, here.

Editing:

  • “Slow Jazz Awakening” Reread scenes 13 – 16 and margin comments; make detailed notes and revision plan for Draft 2.5. A bummer; somehow, I lost the revision notes I made for scenes 8-12; so I backtracked and redid those, before moving forward… Scene 16/16 complete, except for final readthrough. Calling this an almost-win.

Blogging:

  • Publish 9 regular features posts, and First Friday Photo, all on time, and draft ROW80 Round 3 Sponsor Post. 9/9 posted or scheduled on time! Didn’t draft the sponsor post yet; another almost-win.

  • Add challenges gallery widget to sidebar. Nada here.

  • Catch up all blog comments and visits. Made a start; answer comment, return visit, repeat! Not a win, but not a loss, either…call it a solid draw!

Homeschool Paperwork:

  • Make records, and submit Annalise’s PASS test. Later today, I will scan and mail – if you listen, you might here my exuberant cheering ringing through the land! Did you hear it? Did you HEAR it?! Done, done DONE!!! Win, Win, WIN!!!!

Selftending:

  • Write in Intentions journal/ #onegoodcup journal five times. 6/5; and mined these journals for a blogpost! A big strong WIN!
  • Actually visit the #RSW2015 hashtag! =) Uh, gee, no…sorry about that…I kept meaning to, then doing other things, instead…

My goals for this week:

Since last week was so chaotic, since this week includes a special birthday (and another too complicated to detail here), and since I have a LOT of drafting to do, once I finish the plotting, this week features pared-down goals…

Writing:

Editing:

  • “Slow Jazz Awakening”: Final readthrough/ scene 16 and detailed notes; set aside to percolate.

Blogging:

  • Publish 9 regular features posts, and draft ROW80 Round 3 Sponsor Post.

  • Catch up all blog comments and visits. This will stay until I get there – your comments are important to me!

Homeschool Paperwork:

  • Create Jeremiah’s Homeschool Peer Reveiw Panel Assessment Form for 2014-2015.

Selftending:

  • Write in Intentions journal/ #onegoodcup journal five times.
  • Actually visit the #RSW2015 hashtag! =)
  • There’s a birthday in the house on Wednesday…elevens should be bright and shiny, right? =)

A favorite line from my story OR a word or phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised:

  • “Again, the base of this scene has lots of potential….and then falls flat, with a great big thud!” (from my detailed revision notes for “Slow Jazz Awakening”. Several scenes share this common trait, as written…which is why I’m basically rewriting this story!

The biggest challenge I faced this week:

  • Myself. I kind of got in my own way….

Something I love about my WIP:

  • I should be able to start drafting it in another day or three…and I can tell it’s going to be a good draft, because I’m getting antsy!

That’s it for me. Come back next Monday, July 13, to see how I’m doing. Join in or cheer us on! There’ll be Twitter parties (using the hashtag #RSW2015), giveaways and fun (I like fun!). And writing. Lots of that!

Author:

I am myself. I own my life, and live with three other people who own theirs. My intention is to do only those things that bring me joy, and to give myself wholly to those things I do. Writing has been my passion throughout my life, and this will become the home for my writing life...because it brings me great joy!

  1. Sometimes…. well, sometimes we all get in our own way. It’s nice when we recognize that and find a way to get pas ourselves and onto progress.

Hugs to the the Happy Birthday Girl!

    1. We had a lovely day. I think I’m getting out of my own way, now – narrower focus, more triage up front. Still not ready to start drafting, but a lot closer than I was, so there’s that!

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
