Just Add Water: June 21, 2015

ROWin’ on past the penultimate update!

Have you ever read a blogpost that was written on the deck of a pool, on a warm and breezy Sunday evening, while four young best friends, ages 9 through 13, played in the pool?

Well, if you haven’t, and you’d like to, read on…you can fill in the splashes and laughter, and general silliness (and a little crankiness, because it’s the winding-down part of a long and busy four days of art, play, swimming, talk, and fun. Oh, and not much sleep…

So there’s an air of sadness at the impending parting, and then a long drive home, which will last longer (at least five hours), than any of us might like…

And then, three of us, will be home again…

But, before that, it’s time for….

I am myself. I own my life, and live with three other people who own theirs. My intention is to do only those things that bring me joy, and to give myself wholly to those things I do. Writing has been my passion throughout my life, and this will become the home for my writing life...because it brings me great joy!

  1. I am still amazed at how you keep it all organized, Milady! Cheers!!

Glad to hear your visit went well. By the poolside, wish I had a pool. All I have is a little blow up pool to stick my tootsies in when it’s hawt!! It’s a funny sight to behold….

    1. We don’t have a pool, but the friends we were visiting do. All of the kids are strong and happy swimmers, so, weather permitting, a lot of the summer activities when we go revolve around the water.

Organization got a lot easier for me when I started to realize that I couldn’t just adopt someone else’s system whole, and instead started experimenting with bits and pieces and ideas that work for me. I keep my goals on an open word processing program, all the time, and reference it often. I use color-coded text and highlighting to prioritize and have an at-a-glance guide to how I’m doing. I’m also likely to change the structure of how I do things, and what I do, when, according to what’s going on in my life.

Honestly, it really is lovely chaos – but I like the energy of it…

Here’s hoping you find works for you, and that you can keep adapting it till it’s just right for you.

  2. Lounging poolside, writing on your laptop while basking in the sun. Ah, yes, the good life! Sounds like a wonderful experience. The trick is to keep the splashing-children a safe distance from the laptop (electronic devices and water don’t mix). Your goal-setting talents and story-writing prowess always keeps me motivated and inspired. I wish you well in the “Summer Round”. I’ll see you there!

    1. The kids were easy. I explained that I’d like them to limit their jumping to certain areas, and we placed a marker as a reminder. I was far enough away for casual splashes not to be a threat.

As for my talents and prowess – thanks! They’ve been honed over the last several years, and I keep learning new things that help me refine my goals…

I’m looking forward to Round 3 already, but maybe I’d better get through Round 2 first! =)

    1. I think I’ve struck a way of living that works with my reality and my brain…and I’ve gotten more adaptable, so that I can shift focus better when life varies…

And there was fun, fun, fun! =)

Take a chance! Type something in this box, and see what happens! =D
